Majority of Americans still in the dark about incandescent light bulb phase-out

The Jan. 1 deadline to end production of 60- and 40-watt incandescent light bulbs is fast approaching, but most Americans aren't even aware that their traditional light sources will soon become a rare commodity, according to one consumer survey.

Lighting manufacturer Osram Sylvania recently released its sixth annual "Sylvania Socket Survey," which found that only 4 in 10 consumers were aware that 60- and 40-watt light bulbs are being phased out in 2014 as production ends.

Sixty-four percent of participants were aware that a general elimination of incandescent light bulbs was taking place, however, which represents a sharp increase from recent years. In Osram Sylvania's 2012 survey, only 52 percent of participants were aware of any phase-out. In 2008 — just a year after then-President George W. Bush signed the Energy Independence and Security Act (EISA) into law, mandating that low-efficiency ...

Good points. Also, the waste of incandescent bulbs doesn't matter in little-used places like bathrooms. And if you use the 130V contractor variety (alas, already outlawed), they last a good long time. CFL bulbs wear out faster when they're cycled a lot.

Solatube is an excellent way to reduce the need for artificial light; we have it in two rooms.

Energy Independence is a foolish Red Herring promoted by both parties. Not even cartels can get away with ignoring commodity-market forces; OPEC found this out. And I don't mind depending on Canada & Mexico, they're mostly harmless.

The above isn't from a liberal site. Bulbs that give you the same amount of light for less power means lower power bills.
Your last statement is without basis. We need the most light in cold weather months. The so called wasted energy in the form of heat from light bulbs goes into the heated room, requiring less heat from the furnace. Unless of course the heat put into the room from the incandescent bulbs is insignificant, in which case the "wasted energy" as heat from them is also insignificant.

I see we still disagree on Bush. I would call the "Energy Independence and Security Act" Bush's Folly.

Aside from which, if government "experts" actually cared about energy independence, they would get out of the way of private development of energy sources. Light bulbs? Entirely foolishness.

speaking of rising waters.... I remember when the whole Copenhagen climate change debacle happened. china was revered for their reproductive policies and countries around the world were preparing to make treaties under this new carbon credit debt system.... two problems, emails were released and third world countries realized their people were getting the belt tightening measures as well, and things went south.

today we have a shipping expedition of global warming advocates, journalists and scientists stuck in ice in the Antarctic. ships have tried to rescue them and can't.

global warming enthusiasts stuck in the ice.

I wonder if they'll figure it out??

And That No Man Might Buy Or Sell, Save He That Had THE MARK, Or THE NAME Of THE BEAST (OBAMABEAST &-Or FRANCISBEAST), Or THE NUMBER OF HIS (FRANCISBEAST &-OR OBAMABEAST) NAME.

Did your YouTube prophet tell you this?

Methinks you couldn't discern between the Antichrist and Jesus Christ.

• It is very reasonable to think that in the future all Americans will elect to have RFID chips or legislation will be passed that mandates RFID chips. Not only could they monitor your health status, they could be used as GPS, a means to transfer currency, cell phones, computers, etc.

• Like the use of drones and other advents of technology that could potentially be used to control the population, the implications of RFID devices need to be discussed openly by the public. The way we regulate RFID chips and their usage will determine the dangers they pose to us.

Yep, you've read it right TeenChristian. And, apart from The Lord Jesus Christ being "The light of the world"--The Majority of Americans Are Still In The Dark About The Obama-Care RFID-Chip Phase-In.

Or, Haven't You Already Heard That Obama-Care Is Going To Force ALL Who Are Under It's Health-Care Plan To Get A Computer RFID-Chip IMPLANTED In Their RIGHT-HAND -OR- FORHEAD ?

As EXACTLY Prophesied In THE TRUE ENGLISH HOLY BIBLE'S BOOK OF REVELATION CHAPTER 13:

"And He (The Sea &-Or Earth Beast: Obama &-Or 'Pope' Francis-1) Causeth All, Both Small And Great, Rich And Poor, Free And Bond, To Receive A Mark IN Their RIGHT HAND Or IN Their FOREHEADS:

And That No Man Might Buy Or Sell, Save He That Had THE MARK, Or THE NAME Of THE BEAST (OBAMABEAST &-Or FRANCISBEAST), Or THE NUMBER OF HIS (FRANCISBEAST &-OR OBAMABEAST) NAME.

Here Is Wisdom. Let Him That Hath Understanding Count The NUMBER Of THE (FRANCIS-OBAMA) BEAST: For It Is The NUMBER Of A MAN; And HIS NUMBER Is SIX HNDRED THREESCORE
AND SIX (666)."--REVELATION 13:16-18

NOTICE: THE TRUE ENGLISH HOLY BIBLE SAYS **IN** THE RIGHT-HAND OR FOREHEAD -NOT-, I REPEAT -NOT- *ON* THE RIGHT-HAND OR FOREHEAD !

Huh?

Flourescent tubes have been used since the 1940s or so. Actually, my issue with household CFLs is, their ballast doesn't hold up well under frequent power cycles. I wouldn't use them in bathrooms, for example, unless you hang out there for hrs. at a time!

Specialty bulbs are exempt from the rule, for the time being. I change these a lot more often than std. incandescents.

what if you drop the lightbulb?

there were lights that fell in a store I was in, to the ground and shattered. they cleared the store, and were concerned for safety because of the mercury. guess this will just be the new normal.

If you think this is silly, a few days ago they had an article about some woman who couldn't bring cookies to kids on the bus anymore......Like it edified me in anyway to know that.
