Studio executives who have spent the past few years releasing superhero and zombie films have, it seems, had an epiphany. Now their new best friends are evangelical pastors whose endorsements they actively seek, even inviting them on to sets during production. Pastors in turn play clips from films of which they approve to 10,000-strong congregations on 40ft wide movie screens.
Larry Ross, who has handled publicity for Christian groups and leaders including Rick Warren and Billy Graham, said âno pastor goes to seminary in order to market moviesâ but if the movie âproves edifying to their congregation, if it builds their faithâ, they would recommend it....
Biblical??? Oh, you mean like the old movie "The Ten Commandments" was biblical? Right!
"For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book." Rev. 22:18-19
CAS, thank you for sharing that! I thought my husband and I had a pretty strict guideline concerning movies but the Holy Spirit using Bro. Mike has convinced me through Scripture that I still have some work to do. Thank you!
Just so you are aware, I would side with your position. When I think of this I am reminded of the severity to which God dealt with Aaron's sons when they offered strange fire or the distinction to which God makes between what is Holy and unclean in Haggai. It seems very clear from scripture God's position regarding this yet christians act like it is a fleeting matter that grace will just cover. They usurp God's position, not hold His position.
I don't care to make a pronouncement and don't believe anyone will care; but to you, be encouraged brother and continue to allow God to guide your thoughts from the scriptures. Hold fast man, you have others who are trying to hold fast as well.
They look at you as merchandise... the data says you will make it a box office hit. And the movie makers will twist the movie just enough for the ignorant ones in the crowd to think that this is what the Bible says about it. And compromisers will say that the movie makers are using their "artistic license".
Personally I think the problem with Christian films is that it's like we're turning Christianity into a brand. The would be Christian when asked why he's a Christian, he states "because I shop at Christian stores, listen to Christian music, read Christian books, wear Christian apparel and I watch Christian films!" While some of these things may be great and very edifying to a believer, we turn Christianity into a brand, totally losing sight of the great and terrifying God we serve. What suprises me is that Hollywood has figured this out before the evangelicals did.
Totally agree with you gs. However - I'm learning Spanish at the moment and need to start listening to Spanish films to progress my Spanish- well I would prefer to watch Spanish films about the bible than Spanish other films. I think in all things we gotta factor in the holy spirit - if he's not causing us to be distressed then no problem. Some things might be ok for me and not ok for you - and vice versa. But yep in general agree with your sentiments.
Some might feel differently than me, but I have a problem with hell bound, lost sinners directing, and staring in films that are supposed to be Christian. One movie its fornication, and everything abominable in the eyes of God, the next they are playing the part of Gods saints in a supposedly christian movie. Seems like blasphemy to me. And I don't agree with anybody portraying Jesus Christ in any movie. Jesus Christ is perfect and Holy, and nobody should pretend to be him, as nobody on this earth even comes close to his perfection. Think about the Passion. After watching that, everytime I read about Jesus in the Bible, I pictured Jim Cavezial (I have no idea if I spelled his name right). That's idolatry in my opinion, and I doubt I was the only one.
Ill stick with my Bible, instead of Hollywood gimmicks.
