Backlash over A&E’s Ouster of the Duck Commander Grows

The fallout from A&E’s decision to suspend Phil Robertson from the hit reality TV show Duck Dynasty continues to be the dominate story on the Internet. As we reported yesterday, Robertson’s interview with GQ magazine and the subsequent outcry led to his ousting.

The backlash has been growing. Within minutes of A&E’s announcement, websites, Facebook pages, and petitions sprang up in support of the beleaguered star, including the “We Stand with Phil” page that has attracted 1.2 million likes as of this writing. Governor and former presidential candidate Mike Huckabee is encouraging people to “Stand with Phil and Support Free Speech,” According to Huckabee.

Coming from a different angle, Pastor Thabiti Anyabwile, writing at The Gospel Coalition blog, finds extreme irony in a culture that celebrates crude song lyrics and movie depictions of sexuality, but castigates “vulgar” rejections of them. ...

Shows directed at blue collar white men are just as acceptable as those directed at pampered and perfumed metrosexuals of any race.

I like the sarcasm, which I thought fairly effective at pointing out worse things than the foibles of scruffy men.

The new McCarthyists have spoken..."If you are so audacious as to speak of Biblical sin (especially as it relates to same sex relationships) you will be demonized and driven from the public square."

The irony is that it is the new McCarthyists rode into town on the high horse of tolerance and inclusion, but they will have none of that tolerance and inclusion nonsense rocking their boat now that they have the power to subjugate those that believe differently from themselves .

It's now clear who the real intolerant bullies are...

Apparently... "inclusion and acceptance for all Americans' no longer includes Bible-believing, evangelical Christians." Mark Driscoll

The Pastors of our nation have become cowards preaching feel good sermons instead of preaching the truth in order to keep their comfort zone and Christians have become accustomed to their comfort zones also.
2 Chronicles 7:14

"If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land"

Actually, the new season had already been recorded with Phil in it long before he said what the Bible says about sodomy. Wow, what a predicament for A&E! Pacify the sex perverts or loose the highest rated program on cable/satellite TV. I find it amusing. There's a bunch of folks who would pick up DD in an instant, if it left A&E.

The reaction to the comments made by Phil Robertson on DD just expose the
tactics involved in getting people to accept perversion...gays are forcing people to accept it over religious convictions and personal freedoms.

The fact that Christians are being bullied through legal intimidation and personal insults from gay fascists says that it's all about silencing the opposition.

It's not about "tolerance"...it's about eradicating any ideology that opposes homosexuality.

I've read some from both. There is no such thing as a Christian book, so that isn't an issue.

True, the DD folks might believe things about the Bible that are wrong. Very possibly so. However, I'm going to support the guy next to me when we're fighting a common foe. Phil stood up for what is right and I respect him for that.

As for the 1.7% sodomite population figure I mentioned, it is the result of a recent survey by several groups. One of which is liberal. So, it makes sense because around 2% has been the figure used for some time. Of course, the liberal media wants us to believe that the number is dramatically higher.

Why should it be assumed those who Robertson worked with were faking their attitude? All blacks think and act alike?
Of course not. So what good purpose is served by Mr. Robertson's anecdote? Why was it worth repeating in a public venue?

What public figures like him say is imputed by the public to other Fundies, fairly or not. So if a Christian has contrarian opinions on controversial tertiary matters like the Civil War or race relations, it's best to heed Prov. 17:28:
“Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise”

Why do I say this? Paul in Eph. 19 was evidently very guarded on what he said about idols (a much more spiritual topic), so the silversmiths' charges could not be sustained. Fundies today might call that cowardice.

Perhaps blacks only *seemed* happy to Mr. Robertson, for as Frederick Douglass observed long ago, they could get in trouble if they acted more in line with how they felt. Blacks have been the de facto pariah caste of America.
From the article, I wonder why Tisby's grandmother's experience is more believable than Robertson's own. They both seemingly relate their understanding of reality to their experience. Why should it be assumed those who Robertson worked with were faking their attitude? All blacks think and act alike?
