Feds say they disrupted suicide bomb plot by worker at Wichita airport
A 58-year-old airport worker was charged Friday with allegedly planning a suicide bombing at a passenger terminal at the Wichita Mid-Continent Airport in Kansas.

The suspect, Terry Lee Loewen, an avionics technician who lives in Wichita, was arrested earlier in the day as he attempted to use his security pass to drive a vehicle that he thought contained explosives onto the tarmac at the airport, law enforcement officials said at a news conference in Wichita. In fact, the car contained only dummy explosives.

U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom said Loewen spent months developing a plan to drive a carload of explosives to the airport terminal and that he was determined to trigger the bomb himself and die in the blast. ...

Yup, that's probably what they'll argue. Compare with the Gunpowder Plot: Guy Fawkes confessed after a stint on the rack. King James I: "the gentler Tortures are to be first used unto him."

You're probably right, though I wonder if a sharp lawyer could make a case for entrapment. It might depend on how early on the govt got involved, i.e. did the guy have an actual plan for the crime when they entered into it, or was he just talking stupid and they "helped" him with a plan. That he seems to be radicalized doesn't help him in any case.

On the flip side, does Allah give partial credit for *intending* to kill infidels?

I recall the Peanuts character Linus saying, "It doesn't matter what you believe, so long as you're sincere." Perhaps Charles Schultz read Kierkegaard.

Interesting scenario. He developed the plan, along with the FBI who was in on it from the beginning. He gets charged with attempting to use a wmd, but it was never a real bomb, because the FBI planned the outcome from the start. Is this something new, where a dummy device can be redefined as a wmd? Oh, it's so confusing.
