Editor's Note: We were notified that one of our broadcasters, First Congregational Church of Pomfret in Connecticut, recently lost their church building as it burned to the ground in a tragic fire. As they rightly noted, the church is not a building, but a people. And as brothers and sisters together in the greater Body of Christ, we weep with those that weep, and rejoice with those that rejoice.
To our brothers and sisters in Christ in the SermonAudio community.
We thank you for your prayers and concern for our congregation following the loss of our church building through fire this past Saturday afternoon. We are confident in the goodness of God, assured by His faithful promises, and holding firmly to the truth that He is working for His glory. Though such sudden losses seem tragic, we know this did not take God by surprise and we are firmly committed to faithfully following Him into whatever form He desires to cast the next era of our congregation’s 300 year history. The church is a people, not a building -- as historic and as beautiful as that building which He entrusted to our care was. As we shared yesterday from Isaiah 61:1-4, our desire is that God will be gracious to us and make us to be the oaks of righteousness, planted for His glory, that are depicted in that passage. We know He will give us His beauty for ashes, His oil of joy for mourning, and the garments of His praise in exchange for our faint spirits. This is all for and all about His glory. He has maintained a faithful gospel witness in this place for 3 centuries and insofar as He enables, guides, directs, and provides, we will willingly, faithfully, and obediently hand the mantle of that heritage on to those who will follow us in the future generations that remain until our Lord comes back.

May the Lord give you grace and courage at this time! The church building that we meet at burnt down just about 15 months ago. One of our elders said he was praying that our church would be on fire for the Lord, but this is not what he had in mind! We are still in the process of rebuilding. Romans 8:28
