Pornography’s Stunning Impact Visualized in a Single Infographic — and What Happened When Some Chose to Give It Up

Christian leaders and churches have been issuing dire warnings about the dangers of porn addiction for quite some time. While many of these critiques have been faith-based in nature, a new study and an accompanying infographic provide a statistical look at the impact of Internet porn — and the potential benefits that could come from giving it up.

Compiled by Project Know, an alcohol and substance abuse program, the analysis is stunning. The group notes that pornography, by its very design, “poses significant risk of addiction” and is “the perfect trap for the human sex drive.”

At the center of the research is the notion that Internet porn carries with it some unpalatable consequences. From having an impact on personal relationships to creating sexual dysfunction, the results are widespread and diverse.

“Online porn is so stimulating, it can make existing sexual relationships seem inadequate ...

I’ve been a Christian counselor for more that thirty years and, sadly, know that this issue is as prevalent for Christians as unbelievers. It is a tangled mess.

Further, at Birmingham Theological Seminary in a Communications class this semester, the professor assigned, for the final paper, the topic “The Growing Emptiness of Evangelicalism and the Loss of Theological and Moral Boundaries.”

These are harrowing times.

Interesting, John. I'm glad you got the opportunity and I hope she went home rethinking some things. I just finished re listening to a series on ecumenism (Evangelicals and Catholics 1-3 by DA Waite), speaking about how Roman Catholics are being taught that we hold the same views on salvation, along with how the church has hired professional, full time apologists to educate them on how to answer all of our questions in ways that will never allow them to walk away with any doubts on their end; basically refuting anything we could possibly come up with, they are being given the RC defense. The series was interesting and is a good primer for anyone on this topic.

The response you got about being born again is exactly the problem and they are believing hook, line, and sinker whatever they are told; placing their very eternity in the hands of mere sin filled men instead of finding out what the Bible has to say about it all. I don't get it...

What a mess. Will pray for you, of course.
A friend and I were witnessing to a Roman Catholic yesterday, Chris.

She said she was a born again Catholic.

I asked what effect that had on her.

She said, "The Lord led me to go along to my priest to the confessional."

I wonder what she meant by "the Lord".

We had a reasonable time witnessing, and a time after when we all prayed. To her credit, she asked the Lord to put her straight on any error she was in. But then, what 'Lord' was she praying to?

Hi Wes, I think the mere mention of the word can offend sometimes because of the large, disgusting umbrella that it covers. I think it's a topic that shouldn't be silenced and shushed amongst the Christian community because so many have been infected by its magnetic pull.

Did you read the article?

From the article

Christian leaders and churches have been issuing dire warnings about the dangers of porn addiction for quite some time. While many of these critiques have been faith-based in nature, a new study and an accompanying infographic provide a statistical look at the impact of Internet porn — and the potential benefits that could come from giving it up.

Seeing that view pornography could be violation of the 7th commandment and the article talks about giving it up, it seems like an encouragement to obey the 7th commandment not a violation of it.

How is the article "inappropriate " when this is a real issue that no one can seem to acknowledge or deal with? What's inappropriate is the denial and political correctness to not address the issue. I'm glad sa posted the article. I hope people find the help they need. Unfortunately there's always a negative responder.

Get real from earth. I am sorry you are dealing with this. My heart goes out to you. May I ask, does he want help? If he truly wants help and want to save his marrige, tell him to try pure life ministries, it's a ministry from Kentucky , you can find it on line and there is counseling for couples and individual as well, an acceptional live in program and a program for those who cannot make it to their facility. I thank God for that ministry. I don't have all the answers but I have nothing to lose sharing that with you. God bless you . Sincerely

I speak from personal experience, porn is no good. It destroys your soul. You don't see people right when you are bound in it. It's a horrible addiction . Even though I had to go through the fight to get free alone, there is hope. Going through the sexual perversion bondage made me realize , I couldn't do it , God had to change what I couldn't , I am weak , I do need mercy , grace , help . The only way I have stayed free is because of Gods mercy and grace. Thank you Jesus. If there is anyone on here struggling with any kind of sexual perversion , Keep crying out to God, He is faithful , does not hate you, longs to free you, and will not let you down

I stay far, far away from porn of any kind. Porn is one of Satans most potent, addictive drugs. These people can never get enough, it takes over their free time, and they begin looking outside the home to fulfill their fantasies. Sex is no longer anything special, but becomes dirty and meaningless; fleshly. My wife, just last night mentioned watching porn in passing, while I was making dinner...I said "nope". She asked me to read her book 50 shades of gray, I said, "nope".
Too much info? Sorry, just making the point that I don't touch any kind of porn under any circumstances.
