‘I Sure Don’t Want to Go to Hell’: Is Ted Turner’s Outspoken Agnosticism Opening a Bit to Faith?

Billionaire icon and famously outspoken agnostic Ted Turner discusses many topics in a lengthy feature by CNN writer Ann O’Neill, not the least of which is perhaps an evolving spirituality.

Turner admittedly has been openly antagonistic toward religion, Christianity in particular, perhaps due to growing up with it and even dreaming in his youth of being a missionary, CNN noted.

But his little sister, Mary Jean, suffered from a rare form of lupus and endured complications that left her with brain damage and screaming in pain for five years until she died.

“She was sick for five years before she passed away. And it just seemed so unfair, because she hadn’t done anything wrong,” he told CNN. “What had she done wrong? And I couldn’t get any answers. Christianity couldn’t give me any answers to that. So my faith got shaken somewhat.” ...

There is no answer for suffering other than we live in a fallen world of sin, that is realy the only answer God has given us...Mr Turner is a very wealthy man who gets things on his terms...it will not be that way with God,the just will live by faith not answers.

I feel for what Ted Turner went through with watching his sister suffer for years and then dying. I've been to a couple children's hospitals and have seen many sick, disabled, and dying kids and it doesn't make sense. If the answer is it is a result of sin, then shouldn't everyone be sick or disabled? I have faith that Jesus will have some kind of answer for this kind of suffering in the future.

One word of warning. When you read this article, there will be an advertisement for how Mormons believe in Jesus too! Stuff like that just raises my blood pressure because it is so blatantly false. Lol

I find it hard to believe he couldn't get the answer for his question from Christianity. More than likely he just didn't except the answer, or asked someone ignorant of the answer. We live in a fallen world thanks to the disobedience of Adam, which brought sin and death into the world, and has been passed down through the centuries in every man that ever lived, and will live.
