One should remember that America did have a short imperial phase in it's history which occurred principally at the end of the 19th century, and most notably the Spanish-American War of 1898, and again after a noble engagement of WWI stuck it's ugly head up during the Banana_Wars of the '20's & '30's, and raised it's ugly head again, with the oil wars of the Bushes, especially Baby-Face's term in office. But I would have to say during the 20th century America's Judeo-Christian ethic, What does Judeo-Christian Mean? came out quite strongly, and always was there sometimes hidden by greed.
So, the Philippines, Cuba, Puerto Rico (Free Puerto Rico!) were once colonies of the U.S., we feel a responsibility towards them, so, I don't mind a little more humanitarian push from our past in helping the Philippines. It's certainly the Christian thing to do, in a land where there are quite a few Protestants and nominal Christians as well, Should Roman Catholicism really be classified as a Christian religion? -- No.
