Chicken Slaughtered, Raised In China Could Pose Major Risk

Chicken from China has officials on alert, including U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.)

As WCBS 880’s Jim Smith reported Sunday, Schumer said first, the U.S. Department of Agriculture only allowed chickens that had been processed in China to be sold in the U.S. Now, he said the USDA plans to green-light poultry raised and slaughtered in China.

Penny, China, is rapidly industrializing. In fact, it may have even surpassed Japan, so it's the second largest economic force on the planet. They have large urban areas where people do not raise chickens or sadly even children.

China's food needs to better regulated it has killed off their people -- and our pets. It what happens when there aren't the proper food laws implemented and enforced, which if the GOP has it's way, are food won't be any safer and perhaps even less safe than China's.

I imagine the Chinese can just keep a chicken on their property if they have enough space and a little ground... and just eat what they have right there. it is only americans who prevent their people from buying from each other with swat teams and then ship their meat across the planet..... I'm sure its gm fed chicken, so they will need lots of antibiotics.... now those who feed their own families on grass fed have significantly healthier poultry, not that that matters either. corporations are people but individuals are not.

who would subject their own people to this?

Ahem, the Chinese consumer may have some complaints about this. They like their chicken and low-priced.

This is the FDA's fault. They should be doing their job.

Just avoid anything from China, especially food.

Yes, markets are a marvelous thing. Or else this is a problem that civil Tort Law, a more Biblical solution than barely-accountable bureaucratic agencies, solves. Threat of lawsuits improves product quality, though like any legal matter, it can be abused.

The nuclear power industry got special legislative treatment in 1957 to reduce their indemnity in the event of a disaster. I think this is unjust; if any business is too risky to afford private insurance, that's tough.

Irony: the 1960's Chicken Tax in this country came about because Europe objected to their traditionally-raised poultry being undercut by American factory farms. Thus Europe imposed a tariff, & America retaliated on unrelated imports.

This is why imported vans like the Ford Transit Connect & Mercedes Sprinter still have to do some "gymnastics" to evade a 25% punitive duty. Stupid!

yep, eugenics.

and all it would take is a population that says they want to freely buy and sell fresh foods and meats from their countryside farmer friends....

instead, they will say things like meat is bad, butter is bad, fats are bad, salts are bad, pretty much everything nutritional is bad for you ...... but gm grains and soy are vunderfool!

they are doing it because we owe them money,
now more people will die because of food, and ignorant gastroenterologists in America will have no idea of whats happening to their patients or what to do and will label them crazy....

our elected representatives have leveraged the health and well being of you and your progeny for another paycheck and turn at the top

they are torturing an entire population ...

thoroughly disgusting, sellouts is what they are..... food is getting so contaminated, hard to get real food, add to that chicken ordinances in cities, locking up food in trash that is perfectly good because of expiration dates, etc, while food banks realing from high numbers as food stamps are reduced, now Seattle local news setting up surveillance grid around city, wow, what are we doing??
