Hiring of homosexual employees being considered by Baptist child care agency
The president of the Kentucky Baptist Convention's children's services agency has recommended that the organization amend its hiring practices to ban discrimination against homosexuals, according to a PowerPoint presentation posted on the agency's website.
"I would rather homosexuals see the love of God through us than be denied employment by us," Bill Smithwick, president of Sunrise Children's Services, said in an Aug. 16 PowerPoint presentation to the agency's trustees. "I would rather see the ministry continue to help kids and share the Gospel than close."
Trustees were scheduled to vote on the proposal during their Nov. 8 meeting. One trustee, Rick Fyffe, resigned in protest. Another, Stan Spees, is being threatened with removal from the board for voicing his opposition publicly to the change....
I was looking through this piece again. I'm wondering why this wasn't put out as an opinion piece, with some biblical wisdom from a pastor. I don't know anything about this situation but from reading the article, I can see we have a state requirement, possibly, that they accept sodomites on their staff.
in that case they have two choices, reject the bible and keep their organization or shut down.
this is actually a case of persecution and almost seems like the first domino.
the reaction is accommodation, and those who speak up being pushed out.
this is exactly the statist mindset, and if they go so will the rest of SBC. please tell me I'm wrong, but if it becomes policy, and I'm not really sure at this point that leaders of SBC are willing to take up their cross on any issue to the very end.... the fact that they would even play this piece without some direction for the rest of the convention is concerning. maybe I'm missing something?
evangelicals are like spiritual venison right now, who is preparing them to remain in the faith? the prosperity gospel gives false security, where are the pastors preparing their flocks?? there are some, I'm sure, the Lord is good.
Aww, Shane, that's so sweet..it's refreshing to sense your Christian love..it'so neat the way God uses His Holy Spirit to bind us in Christian love even though we've never met! Big smile nodding yes..two thumbs up.
I agree Shane, true Christians in that church should stand up against this absurdity. They should get rid of this charlatan. It wouldn't surprise though if their in accordance with this perversity. Delores your right this is surely the apostasy written of by Paul, the Lords return is probably not far off.
Mine, too, Shane it will probley not happen here because our pastor preaches against homosexuals. We have always supported the Boy Scouts at our Church, had a special Sunday once a year in honor of them even to lunch afterwards for them and their families..even a Scout house for them to meet in. This year a few weeks before the event our pastor postponed it until this problem with homosexuals being allowed in was settled. Well, the Gazette had as their headline"Pastor of First Baptist refuses to honor Boy Scouts because of Homosexual issue. That Sunday in "Cheers and Jeers" section someone put a jeer for our pastor's decision to do this. The next Sunday his sermon was on Standing on God's Principles and being a light and being condemed..you might even be jeered in the newspaper. Well, we did have Scouts day and they still meet in the Scout Hut. But he is very much an outspoken on sin type preacher. You know, People, this is a sure sign of Jesus's soon coming..when the love of many grow cold and a falling away from true faith.
I'm not quite so surprised about this move Chris, the SBC seems to be softening their views a little bit towards this sort of thing. My wife and I are foster parents and Kentucky is one of the last states that don't allow gays to be foster parents. There is only one private agency that will allow gay people to be foster parents. Gay's still can not adopt in Kentucky.
He's missing the point. Homosexuals have a reprobate mind and their lifestyle is perversion. Exposing them to children is nonsense and assuming that he knows better than God who has given them over to a reprobate mind. (Romans 1)
Say what? I'm surprised that any Southern convention would even consider the thought. Well, any convention, but especially Southern. Now, I'm not saying that all or most homosexuals are child predators but they do have looser lifestyles and a different perception of morality. Personally, I wouldn't trust any homosexual male around young boys and Smithwick wants to place them rightoup close and personal. Maybe my accusation is extreme, but I don't trust them and they have no business infiltrating a Christian child care organization.
