t was a food-stamp “free for all” this weekend after a “glitch” with payments in 17 states – as low-income Americans ransacked stores, cleared shelves and then abandoned shopping carts filled with food.
The Electronics Benefits Transfer, or “EBT” cards (the electronic version of food stamps), system went down Saturday morning, leaving millions of food-stamp dependents without means to purchase food and other grocery items. The result? Complete chaos. And panic.
This was talked about all day here yesterday. As soon as card holders found out their cards had no limit, they began Face Booking and tweeting their friends. Walmart, especially, became crowded with shoppers overloading their carts and the Walmarts around here were honoring the cards, even though they knew it was a glitch which caused controversy. Many of these card holders, these financially poor cardholders, were decked out in expensive clothing, well manicured nails and hair, high heels, gold chains and rings on many fingers, loading their taxpayer scores into high end vehicles, etc.

This doesn't make sense. If folks don't really need food stamps (SNAP cards), then how is it a dereliction if the church doesn't "step up" instead? Are churches supposed to bankrupt themselves feeding every unbelieving deadbeat?
Anyhow, charity for all comers isn't a duty of the Biblically-organized church; read 1 Tim. 5; here, in v. 9, Paul evidently only allowed church charity for certain kinds of godly widows, not all widows as one might expect. Charity is generally a duty for individuals.
Talk to pastors: They are always getting called by people fishing for handouts. These must think that Christians are easy marks, & I think they're right because a healthy skepticism about the ways of fallen men isn't encouraged.
I've posted this before, but thought I would do it again. It seems to fit this scenario. I say we are on the next to the last in "his" list.
When the thirteen colonies were still a part of England, Professor Alexander Tyler wrote about the fall of the Athenian republic over two thousand years previous to that time:
"A democracy [or republic] cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves money from the public treasure. From that moment on the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most money from the public treasury, with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy followed by a dictatorship.
"The average age of the world's great civilizations has been two hundred years. These nations have progressed through the following sequence: • from bondage to spiritual faith, • from spiritual faith to great courage, • from courage to liberty, • from liberty to abundance, • from abundance to selfishness, • from selfishness to complacency • from complacency to apathy, • from apathy to dependency, • from dependency back to bondage."
I agree unprofitable servant, I too once worked at a convenient store (in a drug infested area) and most of the EBT recipients were not ashamed. I could always tell when the funds hit their card because they would come in and pile up 50 dollars worth of candy and junk food on the counter. I knew one lady who only had one kid, and she had over 900 dollars on her card! How she pulled that off I don't know. I know another couple that sells their food stamps for drug money, while their four kids go hungry. They too get like a thousand dollars on their food stamp card. If the church did its job, and helped feed the poor, we wouldn't have this problem. Unfortunately the church wont step up, so the government has to. I would say half or most EBT recipients don't really need food stamps.
"For at least two hours Saturday night, EBT cards were not showing limits, and recipients went wild at Walmart stores, stuffing their carts so full of items that local police had to be called in Springfield and Mansfield, La.
one woman was detained because she rang up a $700 grocery bill but only had 49 cents on her card. Walmart’s corporate headquarters said it wouldn’t press charges if she left the food.
But with the loudspeaker announcement that the EBT cards were back online, shoppers began abandoning their jam-packed carts in droves, leaving food in the aisles and checkout lines."
does that sound like people embarrassed their card wasn't working or people trying to violate the 8th commandment?
They weren't leaving empty carts because they were embarrassed that EBT was down. I worked in grocery store, very few if any EBT customers expressed shame or embarrassment.

Yes Penny, good facts. Is it any wonder why scripture says to love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. Things are guaranteed to get worse and worse. Obama is simply redistributing wealth like his old church taught him to do.
and with one push of the button, things turn off and threats of riots are immediate.

There is a prevailing belief in America that all low income people that are getting subsistence from the government is robbing everyone blind. They are all lazy and are only looking for a hand-out. This of course is not true. I'm sure there are selfish, greedy people, but you will come upon them from all walks of life. All economic classes!
I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread. Psalm 37:25
I have seen them who stand on this verity forsaken by their family because they refused to apply for food stamps, and then turned over to Adult Protective who stated they could not force someone to go on food stamps; but suggested that if you could prove them mentally incompetent; then the state could take charge.
The best way to prove someone incompetent that is competent, is to withhold what is needful to sustain their lives and wait till they cry, then call 911; and stating they are acting unstable (because heat and food was withheld when it was below zero). Yet, true to His Word the righteous are not forsaken, the God of providence does provide.
There is another side to the food stamp issue and it is not the conflicting party sides; it is what is really happening to Christians in 'this country', Mr. Paul. There are many ways to destroy the family in this nation that are never even mentioned, No; not by either party.
FYI guy wrote: low-income Americans ransacked stores, cleared shelves and then abandoned shopping carts filled with food. who writes this stuff? do they ever go shopping? go during food stamp distribution times? I have yet to see low income people ransack groceries, or clear shelves at food stamp time ... when it is discovered your card does not work ,is embarrassing and people did leave their carts and cried as there would be no food for the kids ...
