FDA stands firm on gay blood donor ban

Despite pressure from gay rights groups to lift the ban on gay and bisexual men donating blood, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has stood firm, citing the agency’s charge to safeguard American health.

The FDA said it will consider lifting the ban, “only if supported by scientific data showing that a change in the policy would not present a significant and preventable risk to blood recipients.”

Today’s U.S. blood supply is remarkably safe, but that wasn’t always the case. Thousands contracted AIDS in the 1980s from blood tainted with HIV, a death sentence at the time. As a result, the FDA began its lifetime ban on gay and bisexual blood donations: Any male who has had sex with another male since 1977 is excluded. ...

I really have a hard time copying titles for articles with at least one of my browsers for a tablet, so I have to type in something myself, and I somewhat messed that up as well. The original title was, "DA to phase out non-medical antibiotic use by farms" A good article from the LA Times, the advertisements surrounding it, aren't.

Ah, Just a Thought, I don't think that's Christian? By the way, just finished looking at, The Poisoner's Handbook--American Experience on the PBS website. Want to know why an FDA is necessary, and even some government regulation. See how CSI's really started! Just a well done show. Good as any whodunit on commercial television, but this just give you "Just the facts!"

I'm somewhat disgruntled, but the two main characters may have also shown The Inadequacy of Moralism when it came to Prohibition.

I say let gay and bisexual men donate blood, but it can only be used on other gay and bisexual men. This way, if there is an infection in the blood it stays in the community that it came from.

Sodomy therefore is a public health issue, and a cause for justifiable discrimination for public welfare. The CDC statistics are also compelling. Where are all those then who believe in science on this issue? It is irrational to ignore the evidence.

Just another sign of the times. And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh (Luke 21:28).

Here in N. Ireland the sodomites are threatening to take the executive (NI government) to court for refusing to allow their blood "donation" on account of the high risk to recipients in need of a transfusion & their argument is...we`re being discriminated against + equality.
I`am sick listening to the tears shed by these.....individuals.... trying to force their "lifestyle"with all the risks associated with it,upon all the rest of society with the full support of a Godless Government & a corrupt MSM clinging onto their coat-tails.

Good old Liberal Britain.

"A ban that prevents gay men from donating blood is to be partially lifted.
Ministers made the decision after being told by an advisory group that tests to screen blood for HIV are now so effective that the likelihood the virus would be spread to patients through contaminated transfusions has become negligible.
They were also concerned that banning gay men from being donors without a sound medical reason could be a form of discrimination.
But gay and bisexual men will be allowed to donate blood only if they give an assurance they have not had sex with another man for at least 12 months.
This is because screening cannot always detect recent infections of hepatitis B or C.
The ban was imposed in 1985 following an NHS scandal where 5,000 haemophiliac patients in Britain contracted HIV and hepatitis C from a batch of donor blood – 2,000 have since died.
Gay men have a higher risk of being infected with hepatitis and HIV" (MailOn line 2011)

sodomites live a reprobate, destructive life style, and are more likely to contract STDs because of their immense promiscuity. WE DO NOT NEED THEIR BLOOD!

Galatians 6:8 "For he that soweth to his flesh, shall of the flesh reap corruption; but that soweth to the spirit shall of the spirit reap life everlasting."

Yuck (the last sentence of the immediatearticle).
I can't believe that they will consider lifting the ban if science supports the action. How many times has science been wrong? One year they promote, say, lettuce, saying eat it everyday until you are stuffed and you will live forever. The following year, a head of lettuce is on the cover page of science weekly with a red circle and a slash telling everyone to stop eating it or you'll get cancer. How many times has science been wrong about this or that and now it's up to them whether or not gays can donate blood? I wonder how many of the gay scientists will tip the research their own way, no matter what...
