We’ve never had a presidential speech like that!

All this, if it is roughly correct, is going to make the president’s speech tonight quite remarkable. It will be a White House address in which a president argues for an endeavor he is abandoning. It will be a president appealing for public support for an action he intends not to take.

We’ve never had a presidential speech like that!

He will attempt to be morally compelling and rhetorically memorable. He will probably, like Susan Rice yesterday, attempt to paint a graphic portrait of what chemical weapons do—the children in their shrouds, the suffering parents, what such deaths look like and are. This is not meaningless: the world must be reminded what weapons of mass destruction are, and what the indifference of the world foretells.

He will claim the moral high ground. He will temporarily reserve the use of force and welcome recent diplomatic efforts. He will suggest it was his threat of ...

Mike of N.Y., strange, it also the argument gun makers/sellers and I would add liquor sellers use, it's the user's responsibility! Now of course I wouldn't mind banning alcohol and tobacco sales, but I know I'm not going to get very far with that!

In a secular society, you need a huge, interested majority who will say something is wrong, before it will be overlooked, so far murder and child molestation are punished in this society, murder, however, not in a biblical way because too many Romish judges have effectively neutered capital punishment, and the Romish Church would also like to look the other way on child molestation as well, so who knows what will be the punishment or no punishment for those crimes?

I only see where a(n) (a)(im)moral society can be established by thugs which has the mindset of something like Islam, Islam: More than a Religion and of course, "Rome when in minority is as gentle as a lamb, when in equality is as clever as a fox, and when in the majority is as fierce as a tiger."

Christians should know about, The Inadequacy of Moralism.

Interesting conclusion. Someone who actually does a dirty deed is not responsible for it, but the one who hires him is.

Perhaps abortions are down because pregnancies are down. In recent years we have certainly seen birth numbers come down. Career minded women are growing in the community and shun the 'problem' of children, not only at middle class level but below.

The last hero I had for a President was Dwight D. Eisenhower. Since I'm an Independent, I'm not quite sure who you are talking about Wlidflours. I am a "democrat" with a small "d" I would admit to that. I have never supported the abortion portions of the health law, Mike. I'm just saying and your overlooking, people who get abortions are entirely responsible for their actions, not the providers of abortion. Women will still get abortions -- no doubt some will even have "after birth abortions," via the toilet or dumpster. I assume chemicals will become so cheap, that neither the government nor abortion clinics will need to give assistance to immoral abortions.

No, we are having more gun crimes than ever, even in my part of the country. Abortions are down, as I think I put up in one article from a radio station not on tougher laws, but women who want them have become more sophisticated and start using chemicals to return to a non-pregnant condition.

But what this President does with abortion has nothing to do with what is happening to nominal Christians in the M.E., The new Czar, Putin pays close attention, Egypt’s Coptic pope: Things will get better.

Faulty gun comparison. Is the government subsidizing gun sellers for selling guns to individuals? Angela is right, your hero is a hypocrite.

Also so far, anyway, no one is forcing anyone to get abortions, by your reasoning (hmm maybe you have a point? ) yes should start punishing gun sellers for murder too?

America is sooo lucky to have such a wonderful president as this.

I'm sure the American people just do not appreciate him as much as they should.

Perhaps the people need to be re-educated Like Winston Smith in 1984.

"Ministry of Truth (Newspeak: Minitrue)
The Ministry of Truth controls information: news, entertainment, education, and the arts. Winston Smith works in the Minitrue RecDep (Records Department), "rectifying" historical records to concord with Big Brother's current pronouncements, thus everything the Party says is true."

The only ones listening are his devoted friends or his enemies.

impeachable offenses:

Obamacare not only is unconstitutional but illegally bypasses Congress, infringes on states’ rights and marking an unprecedented and unauthorized expansion of IRS power.
Sidestepping Congress, Obama already has granted largely unreported de facto amnesty to millions of illegal aliens using illicit interagency directives and executive orders.
The Obama administration recklessly endangered the public by releasing from prison criminal illegal aliens at a rate far beyond what is publicly known.
The president’s personal role in the Sept. 11, 2012, Benghazi attack, with new evidence regarding what was transpiring at the U.S. mission prior to the assault – arguably impeachable activities in and of themselves.
Illicit edicts on gun control in addition to the deadly “Fast and Furious” gun-running operation intended, the book shows, to collect fraudulent gun data.
From “fusion centers” to data mining to drones to alarming Department of Homeland Security power grabs, how U.S. citizens are fast arriving at the stage of living under a virtual surveillance regime.
New evidence of rank corruption, cronyism and impeachable offenses related to Obama’s first-term “green” funding adventures.

No, Chris, Bush was never that good! Well, Angelia, the President was talking about Syria, (Ah Mr. President I did notice you mentioned the rapidly disappearing American Middle Class! he did get to sneak that end, though for a more detailed view Income gap between rich and poor is biggest in a century.) So, for those who didn't get to see the speech, Obama Addresses the Nation on Syria Sept 10th 2013 | Full Speech (YouTube) Mike of N.Y., I already or mostly addressed your comment on the thread, "Dismantling Syria chemical weapons arsenal would be tough task" You might even like some of those comments.

Angelia, I don't know how many times I said, I don't believe abortions be made easily available. Of course I'm not happy about that in the Obamacare legislation. Even from a secular viewpoint it's a bad idea as is queer marriages. Stopping executions and supporting queer marriages the supposed ally of the Evangelicals the Romish Church wants Also so far, anyway, no one is forcing anyone to get abortions, by your reasoning (hmm maybe you have a point? ) yes should start punishing gun sellers for murder too?

I'm not the first to point out the hypocrisy of Obama in acting as though he is outraged at the murder of innocent children and infants when he is bosom buddies with Planned Barrenhood and NARAL. Sorry, but his speech rang hollow in my ears. But I was glad I only wasted 15 minutes listening to him.

Yes, I especially like the part where he ran to get ahead of the parade. (again) When he welcomed Russia in joining the "international community," (meaning him) when the transfer of chemicals was Russia's idea, but he quickly gave himself credit for it.

It's easy to see how the antichrist will hold sway over men when we observe the ease with which someone like the prez, who speaks doubletalk, even denying what he said a few days before, but speaks it well, can delude even intelligent people.

it was quite a good speech. It was shorter than anything Clinton ever did, and certainly more logical than anything then either of the Bushes ever said. To be truthful, I don't think I ever set through an Obama speech. But, I did sit through all this one. All I can see is this is nothing but sour grapes from the Wall Street Journal. it didn't suffer from inanities, that is typical of a Dixiecan speech. People can make up their own mind about the speech, it is short, well less than 30 minutes I believe, and no doubt it's on the internet somewhere. I don't need the Wall Street Journal to tell me what to think about it.
