White House insists it may strike Syria without congressional approval

The White House insisted Monday that it was legally able to launch a strike on Syria without congressional approval even as it intensified its courting of lawmakers to support military action.

White House counsel Kathryn Ruemmler told the New York Times that a strike would be lawful under both domestic and international law. She told the paper that the president could strike because of the “important national interests” surrounding the use of chemical weapons, even without Congress or United Nations approval. ...

Good article on the liberal mindset, Jim.

The earthquake thing is more a suggestion of cause that is not based on knowledge, perhaps because USGS is a govt agency. Earthquakes are felt in many places

People: go look up Joint Vision 2020 or 2030 and see what the military declares as subjects for the use of military forces. You get to a point when all subject matter has been militarized. I understand we have enery needs but not at the expense of killing someone for the sake of business and $$$. The intelligence that O'bomit is putting forth is more faulty than what Bush put on the table. They must show the evidence just like what was shown in the Cuban missile crisis. Lying to the American public regarding intelligence and sending our troops to war under faulty pretense is an inpreachable offense and criminal offense.

Unprofitable Servant, you see nothing wrong with paying AQ to go to what was a somewhat stable country leading to the massacre of Christians in order to keep influence with allies, the most brutal of muslm nations in order in order to keep the petrodollar in power and get in on the gasline action when our own country has natural gas?
I mean, ok. ...
You know, if somehow I came across as supporting Obama or our government in their financing AQ, or the so called Arab spring then I bear with much sorrow your correction of my position and thank you for pointing out the error of my way. I don't believe that was the point I was trying to make. I believe, jpw, I agreed with your point that those in the different post were hypocritical, and you are most certainly correct to say hypocrisy is wrong and should be abhorred and avoided. While I don't think the president has done anything impeachable, I certainly agree with Duh and really believe Obama has always been about strengthening Muslim hands.

Thank you for your gracious spirit, I hope I will become more thoughtful in my expressions here. God Bless

I mean, ok.

Is that kind of like, its ok for someone who's practicing abortion to judge others practicing abortion, and who am I to point the problem there?

I'm trying to give you the benefit of the doubt, brother. Are you just having trouble processing all this?

Duh, good points!

President Obama is directly supporting terrorism against Syria. Obama has created a civil war against a sovereign nation. Obama is supporting the rebels who are killing and raping Christians across Syria. America doesn't belong in this action against Syria. Call your senators and congressmen to get America out of this proxi-civil war; we have no place in this. Imagine if the President of Mexico supporting an invading army of rebels to rape and pillage Austin TX? Call your congressmen and senators to impreach Obama for warcrimes against the Syrian people. Even though America may now not strike Syria, the civil war continues with full american support. This is illegal! Asad may not be what we would like him to be, but he is atleast better than Obama because he cares and protects his people (tribe) and other religions have protected status in his country.

Yes, the earth worshippers here in NY, and their followers in other places are doing their best to stop fracking. Too bad they lack simple knowledge that the fracking goes on so far below any water table, so far below rock, that it can't contaminate the water. The water goes up from the table, not down through the fracking zone. But we can't let details get in the way of worship, can we?
Good comment Mike. According to the Huffington Post 65,899,660 folks voted for Obama, Jim was simply one of them. Now since he is a well read fellow, I'm sure he thought out that decision thoroughly.

UPS, I don't think you need to come down very hard on the Obama Adm. on this, He okayed the Southern portion of the Keystone pipeline, so I would think he would sign off on the northern part as well. He kept Davy Cameron happy by not coming down as hard as he could on BP, Fracking is going on unabated. It is states that sometimes try to control it, like N.Y.. Does sometimes make you wonder when you open a water tap you better not have a flame around it, (in fracking areas) because the stream of tap water will catch fire. I would have to look up the Alaska drilling, but seems to me that was squashed before Obama.

Yes, Banana War Bush, highest priority was to keep the oil flowing, and he did quite a good job of that, hey no matter if let nominal Christians in Iraq get slaughtered, Fear of jihad driving Christians [Catholics] from Iraq.

Strange protecting Muhammadans in the Balkans was so important, I think it is just as important to protect the nominal Christians in the Middle East. The Crusades in Context[/URL

Though not necessarily agreeing with the premise, not sure why making sure we have a free flow of petroleum is such a bad thing. The administration here in the states is doing everything it can to block us from becoming oil independent and thus we depend upon shipments from the Middle East. Think of the crippling domino effect on our economy if oil prices were to sky rocket to say double what they are now. The same people who complain about the price they pay when they fill up their vehicles are saying lets not get involved in conflict to keep oil supply abundant. You can't have it both ways. I am not advocating action in the Middle East, just saying we made our own bed here by electing leaders who refuse to allow for offshore drilling where the supply is abundant and in areas like Anwr. They are trying to stop fracking also. Instead they are investing millions in failed alternative energies instead of allowing the free market to make that decision.

Lisa, I thank God for you today. I really mean it. Thank you for talking about real life here, there is a name for the pipeline...Qatar wants it, isrl probably wants the reserves off Syria, I know Saudi must, because all of them are putting AQ thugs into syr, looks like russ and chna have sent ships in the region, this would have major effect.... afghan was already lost to chaos they aren't going to keep playing, and....they already are making plans to trade outside of petrodollar (look at what happened to qaddafi when he set in place plans with world leaders to create his own real gold currency) -- I imagine the world wants to move on from this forced marriage and leave us holding the bag of rotten apples.

if assd and putin were not showing such leadership, what would eventually happen is someone's paid thugs would get their hands on the entire army and chemical arsenal of assd. now that makes a lot of sense.

It isn't about oil or chemicals either. Like Mickey Rooney and Judy Garland, it's about putting on a show.

I seriously doubt that, Lisa. Though no doubt, that isn't entirely out of the picture. I don't think anybody want to do anything in Syria, because both sides in this Civil War are completely obnoxious. The Russian proposal will be used the excuse to do nothing, and worse than nothing will be accomplished. Dismantling Syria's, chemical arsenal would be a tough task
