The Common Core catastrophe in public schools

Don’t worry. They’re fixing education in America. Again.

The states have largely signed on to a national ‚ÄúCommon Core‚ÄĚ for public education to assure that all American children share a basic body of learning. This Common Core would, according to the Common Core Standards Initiative (CCSI) website, ‚Äúprovide a consistent, clear understanding of what students are expected to learn, so teachers and parents know what they need to do to help them.‚ÄĚ Thus far, the standards apply to only language arts and mathematics. ...

Ah Jim, it was the Obama voters who set aside their thinking and emoted their way into the voting booth. They still don't get it.

Maybe we can dress the students in grey to fit in with the other students dressed in grey. We could call it "Common Clothes." Now if we could just find some little red pamphlet they could carry in their pocket...

Educators?

I didn't read it, but can comfortably say that common education "standards" out of the minds of Washington bureaucrats, may well lead to common-minded students. Isn't the purpose of education not commonality of outcome, but to bring students up to their individual capability?
