4 x 3 = 11? Did School Official Really Say It Doesn’t Matter if Students Get Simple Math Wrong Under Common Core?
Recent comments by an Illinois school district official seem to suggest it doesn’t matter if students get simple arithmetic wrong under new Common Core standards, but those remarks highlighted in some news reports don’t give the full context.

Several news outlets have seized on remarks made last month by Grayslake, Ill. Community Consolidated School District 46 curriculum coordinator Amanda August in which she said it matters less if students answer 3 x 4 incorrectly as long as they can explain how they arrived at their final answer.

But the 43-second clip of August’s response being highlighted, in which she explains the “different ways” students will be taught to do problems under Common Core, does not show the first part of her answer in which she said students should “come up with the same answer no matter how they do” the problem. ...

No . It doesn't matter . Why? It doesn't matter because they don't want to offend the student for being stupid. Of course they would love a dumbed down new generation void of God , morals , faith, intelligence. What'd you think satan wants. Certainly not people who can think for themselves. America is finished as a nation. This is what happens when Christians do not stand up We deserve what we got. And it's gonna get worse.

Of course that school official stated it does not matter if Johnny got that math problem wrong. And it does not matter to humanists that Johnny can't read and write properly as to humanists the main goal is to brainwash students into becoming atheists. That is what I read somewhere is the goal of the humanists.

Gasp! Barry! you couldn't move to Nebraska! The only purpose of a state university is to field a football, and perhaps some other teams if they win a lot. I see you don't have an idea what the educational system is for!

Yes, when I went to go out to eat with my brother to eat last night a radio commentator must have spent quite a few minutes attacking the idea this educational expert put forth. I think he used an example of plane landing gear that collapsed, and he wanted an engineer that could design a proper one, rather than engineer that could explain why the one he designed, failed.

Hey, but this country we have been following this idea for quite a few years now, we have politicians that suppose to have certain principles, but if you put any two together, they wouldn't make even one functioning used car saleman.

The article states, "she said it matters less if students answer 3 x 4 incorrectly as long as they can explain how they arrived at their final answer."

If they give the wrong answer, they haven't arrived at the answer yet. If I'm not mistaken the school system no longer teaches cursive writing. I think that they are spending too much time with extra-curricular activities than reading, writing and arithmetic. Oh, our tax dollars at work!

de-intellectualized people are easily maneuvered and corralled (and easily given to fear and fervor).

".... it matters less if students answer 3 x 4 incorrectly as long as they can explain how they arrived at their final answer."

'The computer told me so.'

I made an $8.20 C-store purchase yesterday and gave the cashier a $20.00 bill. She was either late teens or early 20's. While the cash register told her the change was $11.80 I found 20 cents and gave to her. She was dumbfonded and called for her supervisor to tell her the correct change.

I've seen this a lot over the years and believe technology plays a huge role in the dumbing down of many students.

Don't they realize they are robbing the students of the opportunity to succeed? Now all kids care about is the filth going on in Hollywood. And their parents/parent allows them not to succeed? What a backwards nation we live in!
