A Christian apologist, scholar, and intelligent design advocate claimed all biblical believers should support free markets, and argued that economic illiteracy, rather than Wall Street greed, caused the 2008 financial crisis.
Biblical principles show that free markets are the best way to organize society, argued Jay Richards, senior fellow at the Discovery Institute, visiting scholar at the Institute for Faith, Work, and Economics, and author of Infiltrated: How to Stop the Insiders and Activists Who are Exploiting the Financial Crisis to Control Our Lives and Our Fortunes, in a Thursday interview with The Christian Post. He also claimed that Christians should learn economics to be good citizens. Nevertheless, he clarified, "I wouldn't go so far as to say 'if you read the Bible, you'll affirm Capitalism because Jesus was a Capitalist.'"...
I'm trying to figure out qhat type of posting causes "Penelope" to utilize her alter ego, or is it at random? Or, is she doing a slow change over to her new, preferred name of choice? Jaclyn Penelope Wochowski...hmmm...I think we're getting close
Therefore, THE LORD JESUS CHRIST OF NAZARETH IN ISRAEL IS A CAPITALIST; AS, HE CREATED & OWNS ALL THE CAPITAL !
Albeit, THE LORD JESUS CHRIST Is A BENEVOLENT CAPITALIST--A VERY GENEROUS & BENEVOLENT CAPITALIST--NOT TO MENTION A VERY, VERY COMPASSIONATE CAPITALIST TOO !
Now, Is THE LORD JESUS CHRIST A "Socialist" ?
No, Not Necessarily A "Socialist" As The World Defines A "Socialist" &-Or "Socialism".
And Anyway, IF The LORD JESUS CHRIST Were/Was/Is A "Socialist" &-Or An Advocate Of "Socialism";
HE Would DEFINITELY Be A "Voluntary" &-Or "Non-Compulsary" 'Socialist' Who Advocated/Advocates "Voluntary-&-Or-Non-Compulsary" 'Socialism' !
Thus, THE LORD JESUS, BEING GOD OF GOD & Man Of Man, Is A THOROUGHLY & "DYED IN THE WOOL" CAPITALIST--ALBEIT A COMPASSIONATE & GENEROUS CAPITALIST--WHO OWNS ALL & WILL GIVE HIS CAPITAL TO WHOMSOEVER HE WILL[S] !
And CHRIST &-OR GOD Wills To Give "All Things" To HIS OWN:
"Therefore Let No Man Glory In Men, FOR ALL THINGS ARE YOURS;
Whether Paul, Or Apollos, Or Cephas, Or The World, Or Life, Or Death, Or Things Present, Or Things To Come; ALL ARE YOURS;
"In April 1976, Carter proposed health care reform that included key features of the bipartisan bill for universal national health insurance[a] sponsored by Senator Ted Kennedy (D-MA). In June 1979, Carter proposed more limited health insurance reformâan employer mandate to provide[b] private catastrophic health insurance[c] plus coverage without cost sharing for pregnant women and infants, federalization of Medicaid[d] with extension to the very poor[e] without dependent minor children, and the addition of catastrophic coverage to Medicare"
Penelope, you're comments have some merit, and Obamacare was a compromise, in fact it's the original Republican plan, Republican Origins of Democratic Health Care Provision, not the present one, "The Republican health care plan is this: 'Don't get sick, and if you do get sick, die quickly.'" Congresssman Alan Grayson, Florida 8th District.
No, as was pointed out in the Give healthcare a chance to evolve we don't have a nationalized healthcare considering America's business structure. Considering the private healthcare plans would collapse without something like Obamacare, then it's time to tell that Canadian Senator from Texas, Cruz, to go fly a kite!
So, no, the insurance companies are not entirely unhappy with Obamacare.

None of the things you find reprehensible have anything to do with capitalism and you accusations are spurious at best

Jim, 2 of the great examples of capitalism in the N.T. What we have here are a group of people (from the 5000 saved) who were up at Jerusalem for one of the three required feast Jews had to attend. These people would have normally already left the city but they stayed to be taught in their new faith. This created many extra people who needed care. So, we have private property owners, not through coercion of the government, but of their volition choosing to sell their property and take their profits and give it to meet the needs of the brethren. Two of them lied about how MUCH they gave because they wanted the praise of men instead of God. Note the apostle said, while it was not sold it was YOUR OWN, after it was sold it was UNDER YOUR CONTROL. The passage in Proverbs 24:30-34 say that the lazy person gets his reward, poverty and want. Yet Proverbs 13:4 says the diligent shall be made rich (not have their wages confiscated). Good old capitalism. The capitalist Jews were not to harvest the corners of their field so that the poor could come out and WORK to earn their meal, if any man does not work he should not eat. All good principles of capitalism. Now we had liberal democrats in those days as the Bible speaks of those keeping back the hire of the laborer by fraud.
Acts 2 43 And everyone kept feeling a sense of awe; and many wonders and signs were taking place through the apostles. 44 And all those who had believed were together, and had all things in common; 45 and they began selling their property and possessions, and were sharing them with all, as anyone might have need.
Now that is pure simple, communism (notice the small "c" and not the large "C") and Christians haven't had that much against property rights, though again see the earlier quoted verses that Jesus said, but anyway,
Acts 5 3 But Peter said, "Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit, and to keep back some of the price of the land? 4 "While it remained unsold, did it not remain your own? And after it was sold, was it not under your control? Why is it that you have conceived this deed in your heart? You have not lied to men, but to God." 5 And as he heard these words, Ananias fell down and breathed his last; and great fear came upon all who heard of it.---NASB
Jim from Lincoln, the problem you are experiencing is that you are confusing greed with profits. The above listed articles will help you straighten that out. The facts are, unless people were by your definition "greedy" you would not have whatever device you are using to access this website. The reason people go to a place of work and supplies and maintenance happens to keep that building functional for the work is because people practice your definition of greed. Leftist are CLUELESS when it comes to the economy, the current administration continued assault on it is a great example. You can have your communist utopia like Cuba, where equality is reached because everybody (except Castro and his cronies) are equally in abject poverty. The don't understand the word "choice" when it comes to commodities. I can address later where capitalistic principles are found in Scripture. People against corporate profit are the same ones crying to raise the minimum wage (individual profit). No system is without abuse.
Jim Lincoln wrote: John Y., why your almost as wrong on that as you are on the religious system you follow! But economic systems of the ancient world can't be so easily pigeonholed into what goes on in the modern world. Did Jesus work for money or by bartering (especially the latter) probably for many years he was a carpenter so in that sense it would be true, but trying to make him conform to the over-weening greed of the modern GOP'er -- never!
The Bible teaches the free market system which is Capitalism. The Founding Father's of the United States were inspired by God to form this nation as a free market system(Capitalism). And this nation was founded as a Christian nation according to the writings of the Founding Father's of the United States.
First of all, I have never considered the America a Christian nation. I really don't have much trouble with the motto on our coins that say, "In God we Trust," since that god is obviously money. I think a much better motto would be "Greed Works!"
Luke 12 15 And He said to them, "Beware, and be on your guard against every form of greed; for not even when one has an abundance does his life consist of his possessions."---NASB
I think that shows that doesn't exactly bless the world view of movie actors or Wall St. bankers :-7 Yes, the "isms," are a modern concept though some go back really to the 18th century in a formal espousal.
I would suppose one has to realize that we don't live in a Christian country or world. One has to remember a society that practice charity even on a state level the Byzantine Empire was replaced by a Satanic one.
Emperor Manual II Paleologos of the Byzantine Empire wrote: Show me just what Muhammad brought that was new and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached.
"Word story It is easy to forget that capitalism was coined not so long ago, in the mid-19th century, when the Industrial Revolution was in full swing, and individual entrepreneurs were creating new industries and amassing wealth. Terms for the other two major competing economic systems of the past two centuriesâ socialism and communismâwere also coined around the same time. Also, about the same time it became common to designate all such coinages as âismsâ: terms formed by adding the suffix -ism to a root word in order to expand its meaning to encompass a related system, theory, or practice. Thus from a fairly old word, capital, the relatively newer word, capitalism, was formed to describe the then emerging economies of the West. (Another towering ism coined later in the 19th century was, of course, Darwinism.)
On the surface, the meaning of capitalism seems straightforward, referring to an economic system in which private individuals, rather than governments, own property and businesses. But beneath the surface, strong currents of opinion and theory swirl about the term. Many people fiercely espouse capitalism as an economic freedom inseparable from democracy, as reflected in several books considered classics and still avidly read today: .... " (dictionary.com)

Luke 16 13 "No servant can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one, and love the other, or else he will hold to one, and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon." 14 Now the Pharisees, who were lovers of money, were listening to all these things, and they were scoffing at Him. Matthew 5 40 "And if anyone wants to sue you, and take your shirt, let him have your coat also. 41 "And whoever shall force you to go one mile, go with him two. 42 "Give to him who asks of you, and do not turn away from him who wants to borrow from you.---NASB
