When the Lyme Disease ‘cure’ doesn’t end the pain
Brandi Dean wanted to slink home. Her husband had rushed her to a Boston emergency room for severe vertigo, confusion, and a bizarre weakness on her right side, but neurological and other tests had yielded nothing. Maybe, a doctor suggested gently, it was a panic attack.

“I was so embarrassed,” said the soft-spoken Dean, who left Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center wondering whether the stresses of being a mother of two young sons had caused her to become so sick. She was still reeling from the experience a week later when her phone rang. One of her lab tests had come back positive — for Lyme disease. ...

All things work for good for the Christian.
"Affliction is for his good. What hurt does the fire to the gold? It only purifies it. What hurt does the fan to the corn? It only separates the chaff from it. What hurt do leeches to the body? They only suck out the bad blood. God never uses His staff, but to beat out the dust. Affliction does that which the Word many times will not, it ‘opens the ear to discipline’ (Job 36:10). When God lays men upon their backs, then they look up to heaven. God’s smiting His people is like the musician’s striking upon the violin, which makes it put forth a melodious sound. How much good comes to the saints by affliction! When they are pounded and broken, they send forth their sweetest smell. Affliction is a bitter root, but it bears sweet fruit. ‘It yieldeth the peaceable fruits of righteousness’ (Hebrews 12:11). Affliction is the highway to heaven; though it be flinty and thorny, yet it is the best way. Poverty shall starve our sins; sickness shall make grace more helpful (2 Corinthians 4:16). Reproach shall cause ‘the Spirit of God and of glory to rest upon us’ (1 Peter 4:14). Death shall stop the bottle of tears, and open the gate of Paradise." (Thomas Watson. "All things for Good" [Banner])

"Under Our Skin" documents this situation, reflecting the dark ages of our medical system.

I wondered the same thing and then when I read the bottom of the article I assumed it was because of their desired to have children. Their complicated, terrible struggle with this disease that is already affecting every aspect of life is being weighed against their desired for children - where to draw the line. Do they prevent pregancy through medical intervention until she is at a point where her body can support life without killing her; or do they take what some would call "a leap of faith" and trust that God will work is out. Difficult discussion and I would pray they take it to God; I can surely see both points of view.

Interesting article.
Why it has appeared on SA I don't really know. Lyme Disease is obviously one of those bugs which defeat man and his medical science. And this lady is suffering a tough affliction which I pray the Lord may use to convert her if she is not converted, or test her to increase her faith and trust in the Lord. I too have one of those diseases which defeat man and his medical science, which has brought me to think about affliction and how the Lord uses it in the life and trial of the Christian. It certainly makes you think.
Lots of good sermons on the site about affliction.
