Judge: Foreigners can sue U.S. pastor over sermons

A federal judge has backed a homosexual-rights group in its claim that members were injured by an American pastor’s biblical preaching in Uganda against homosexual behavior.

But the ruling from Judge Michael Posner in a case brought by Sexual Minorities Uganda against Pastor Scott Lively of Abiding Truth Ministries could mean much more. It could establish that an international consensus disavowing long-held biblical standards could trump the U.S. Constitution.

SMUG alleges Lively must be punished for criticizing homosexuality, calling his speech a ‚Äúcrime against humanity‚ÄĚ in violation of ‚Äúinternational law.‚ÄĚ

The plaintiffs allege that the Alien Tort Statute in the United States allows them to make the charge in the U.S. ...

So refreshing just to read the pure basics once in a while. I think it's amazing how everything boils down into a few, very basic, but hard hitting; poignant sentences, but everything in between those sentences; everything that is needed to arrive at or explain them in order to squeeze them down to the bare essentials as you did, is a fantastic, almost incomprehensible amount of information. I think it's amazing how the Bible can be discussed all day, every day; studied from childhood to the day we give up the ghost, and we never finish exploring or even fully understanding or comprehending the depth of knowledge it contains.

Did I make sense? Oh well, I know what I meant...ha-ha.

Millions in my country have been deluded by making mental assent, although I could hardly even call it that. It is more like church attendance, doing what you're told; stand up, sit down, recite this liturgy, sing this hymn, baptise your baby, say amen, drink your wine and eat your wafer, read the creed from your service sheet, and all the other blah blah nonsense that you find in nominally Christian churches in every place.
To catch a view of the kingdom of God, one must needs be born again and spiritually enlightened, having the revelation of the Holy Ghost, and the Lord working repentance and faith in the sinner's heart, which heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked.
Yep!
Well, there is certainly nothing I can add to what you have said, so I'll simply say AMEN!

This is the key to unlock the answer - faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. But not merely faith that he died a sacrifice for sin, that he made an atonement for sin at Calvary, that he bore the sins of all his people on a cross.
No......
It is faith in the finished work of Christ. Because of his perfect obedience to God, his righteousness is acceptable to God. Therefore he can appear before God without being burnt up. This sort of righteousness is that which we as sinners need, in order to come to heaven. Through faith, we appropriate the righteousness of Christ, it is credited to us. It is justification by faith alone. And sealed by the Spirit.

Hey brother! I think the argument 1517 and I were making (although I can't speak for him) is we should do the right thing even if it causes us to suffer. Of course we should not desire to suffer. But, if God allows us to suffer for doing the right thing; we should rejoice. Only the popes self flagellate.

[18] Servants, [be] subject to [your] masters with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward. [19] For this [is] thankworthy, if a man for conscience toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully. [20] For what glory [is it], if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer [for it], ye take it patiently, this [is] acceptable with God. [21] For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: [22] Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: [23] Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed [himself] to him that judgeth righteously: (1Pe 2:18-23 KJV)

Let me get this straight, it's now a problem to suffer for the sake of Christ? This man, as we should, rejoice at the privilege to suffer for Christ. Christians need to stop fearing worldly MAN and boldly live out their faith, looking to GOD for strength, unwavering in their commitment to Christ.
Don't know that one would have to choose to needlessly suffer.

Acts 22:24 the commander ordered him to be brought into the barracks, and said that he should be examined under scourging, so that he might know why they shouted so against him. 25 And as they bound him with thongs, Paul said to the centurion who stood by, ‚ÄúIs it lawful for you to scourge a man who is a Roman, and uncondemned?‚ÄĚ (NKJV)

I think the following verses may be a bit helpful bro.

2 Timothy 4:16-18 KJV
16 At my first answer no man stood with me, but all men forsook me: I pray God that it may not be laid to their charge.
17 Notwithstanding the Lord stood with me, and strengthened me; that by me the preaching might be fully known, and that all the Gentiles might hear: and I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion.
18 And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

I would hope that those of his brethren who are there would support, and those who are not there would pray.

I've got all sorts of mixed emotions/thoughts regarding your post.

First if one is persecuted for Christ's sake they ought to rejoice.

It is another to stand by and see a brother or sister persecuted for their faith if one does nothing to come alongside and help them.

Also God has shown Himself a Just, Righteous and Holy God, One who has personal interest in justice.

So there is a whole lot of learning for the child of God in all this. We might start in praying for this brother (btw even is one "assulted" by the "homosexual militants" were not a Christian we might also pray for them as well)

Also let's not forget considering, are modern day churches salt that have lost their savour and good for nothing anymore but to be thrown out and trampled under foot by men?

just thinking

What a great comment; I agree fully with your thoughts. A soldier for Christ should simply seek to please Christ and not this world.

Wholeheartedly agree 1517! It's sad to watch the moral decline and persecution yet joyful that Gods word is fulfilled and living. Unwavering is a good choice of words - we will need Gods strength to stand strong in the years to come.

A year ago our pastor was on TBN and one Sunday he preached a sermon and part of that sermon had to do with sin of homosexuals..then he said this will be cut out before it airs world wide. I thoought why are you spending all that money to be on TBN when you are not allowed to preach God's message. Jack Van Impe said the reason he is no longer on TBN is because he was so censored in his messages.

again, to understand, we would need to see what groups are behind the sodomy push. the sodomizers are simply a tool. the goal is to silence the message of Christ.
