Pope draws 3M to Mass as Brazil trip closes

Pope Francis' historic trip to his home continent ended Sunday after a marathon weeklong visit to Brazil that drew millions of people onto the sands of Rio de Janeiro's iconic Copacabana beach and appeared to reinvigorate the clergy and faithful alike in the world's largest Catholic country.

Dignitaries including Brazilian Vice President Michel Temer turned out at Rio's Antonio Carlos Jobim international airport to bid farewell to the Argentine-born pontiff after a visit marked by big moments. They included a visit to a vast church dedicated to Brazil's patron saint, a rainy walk through one of Rio's dangerous slums and a papal Mass that was one of the biggest in recent history.

Speaking from a white stage on the sands of Copacabana on Sunday, Francis urged a crowd estimated at 3 million people to go out and spread their faith "to the fringes of society, even to those who seem farthest away, ...

Nameless, thanks for confirming that, I was really pretty certain that was case. I did want an ex-Catholic, who I assume you are, confirming that, the short commentary, The Roman Catholic Bible (PDF)--by the way most of these articles like those of Mike Gendron--are written by Baptist pastors who were Catholic, in Mike Gendron's case 34 years. Now John Ankerberg and I doubt John Weldon were ever Catholic, but many of the articles on the Ankerberg site site Catholicism were written by ex-Catholics. Like the United Methodists it is a great church to be -- From

John Y., I should have mentioned on one of the threads you did mention that you didn't support all of The Five Precepts of the Romish Church. Thank you for commenting on that. I'm glad you do know that, no, Is the One True Church Roman Catholic?, but one could only wished you knew, yes, Is A Catholic Christian An Oxymoron?.

News Item8/1/13 5:12 PM
Yes....correct Jim L.
All RC bibles either have abominable pictures or their heretical commentaries.

Ah, ex-Catholics you should point out to John Y., very few Bibles has the Imprimatur of the Romish Church, a special edition of the NRSV does I do believe. The Roman Catholic Bible (PDF) has a few problems that this article mentions, but I think any Bible that has the Romish Imprimatur has to be heavily laced (with theological poison ) official Catholic commentary? I had a copy of the Romish Bible which some way or another I misplaced, but I certainly remember the commentary in it. So, gentlemen you can correct me if there is any official Catholic Bible out there that doesn't has the odious Romish Church commentary in it? But of course John Y., Catholic Bible Studies (PDF) aren't really that anyway.

Remember John Y., 'Tyndale later wrote that the Church authorities banned translation into the mother tongue “to keep the world still in darkness, to the intent they might sit in the consciences of the people, through vain superstition and false doctrine, to satisfy their filthy lusts, their proud ambition, and insatiable covetousness, and to exalt their own honour... above God himself

Far be it from me if I ever would "sabotage"
anyone to read their Bible.
We can only assume that one is a Christian who reads and does what is written
according to the book of James.
That is what I was addressing to John Y.

I know you don't, but I think you might turn a blind eye to the big picture because of the shyness. I think the level of comfort you have now overpowers everything else. Everything is so intertwined that I don't know how you successfully seperate everything.

Not reasonable!!
I have to think there is an extremely heartbreaking thing sabotaging Roman Catholics in any reading of the Bible they might do.

The leadership of the RCC tells its members it is they the RCC that have given them the Bible (NOT God Himself), along with the sacred (capital T) Tradition of the RCC, and God has made the magisterium the sole interpreter of Scripture (NOT that people have the right to personally understand what God says, He saying what He means and meaning what He says) - therefore to the devout RC anyone who disagrees with Sacred Tradition or the Papacy (& magisterium) is a hell deserving heretic they should treat as a devil.

And that a devout RC who read the Bible must interpret it has they are told to by the Magisterium.

Further they've burned people at the stake like John Huss to show how serious they (the leadership of the RCC) are about this and warn others not to buck Rome.

It is false to state that Catholics are not encouraged to read the Bible. When I was growing up I was taught and encouraged by my parents to read the Bible. I know the layout of the Bible so well that I can go to any book in the Bible within a manner of seconds, less than a minute. Christopher000, Naturally I don't believe the Catholic Church is the only True Church.

Thanks MS. Jim, I'm not so sure he is turning anyone away. The pedophile scandal didn't do all that much damage, and a recent survey stated that a full 1/3rd of Roman Catholics support gay marriage. The ones who do disagree with this or that seem to turn a blind eye; attending mass, and filling the money tray, because after all, there is no salvation outside the church...

Chris, you are so correct, and not only should Christians Come Out Of The Catholic Church (PDF), but any Christian should come out of mainline church, like I did with the United Methodists. John MacArthur pointed out the problem of the various apostate churches, as I tried to point out to others in another thread, Saved or Self-Deceived, Part 1 and Saved or Self-Deceived, Part 2.

While we can be happy in some aspects of Brazil’s Changing Religious Landscape, and the decline in percentage--though really not in numbers of the Romish Church Should Roman Catholicism really be classified as a Christian religion? -- No. (PDF) can make us happy we have no reason to cheer the growth of Charismatic Chaos in Brazil either.

The Pope is helping turning people from the RCC with his support of queers & atheists, but we need God to turn them to Christ!

Excellent post ...Christopher.
As one who came out of that aspostate,blasphemous,system...what you said is spot on.
The ones who post who are so in love with the papal system...are deeply ecumenical and deceived,..or are not born again and therefore cannot see the deception!

I just don't understand how any born again Christians can feel comfortable defending the Roman machine like they do. The system is so easily proven false, and anti-Christ, so there should not be any defense. Some say that it's okay for a born again Christian to remain within the church. I don't know how this is possible when they know the truth. This would be, to me, like a born again Christian attending any other apostate church that claims to worship Christ, yet in practice, they are filled with every vile thing; anti-biblical in so many easily provable ways. Yet when I and others address these things, some jump in and accuse us of being hatefilled, intolerant, not truly saved, or just plain wrong. I don't understand that logic when I and others can back up every single claim using the Bible and Romes own words to condemn them.
Christ is worshipped in theory, but not in practice...

Wow, look at that crowd that this guy drew together. Christ on Earth, the supreme father; able to save or to condemn. So many have been deceived by the provably false lies, the wealth, and the pomp of the Roman machine. I have heard it said that they must be the one true church because of how wealthy they are. Funny how some draw their conclusions. We will all be held accountable because we have God's instruction book. Every single one of us is without excuse because of that. This is why it's so difficult for me to figure out how anyone can be deceived. When it comes to where any of us will spend eternity, how is it that billions will put and have put their blind trust in a mere sinfilled man and a church that is easily proven to be filled with heretical doctrines, pagan rituals, and anti biblical, anti-god, anti-Christ dogmas and decrees? I don't get it. What's more important than knowing the truth about where we will spend eternity?
The lie of Purgatory is one of Satan's greatest masterpieces.

Well, we know the apostate Church especially it's Magisterium q.v., Roman Catholic Authority (PDF) will be burning in hell forever. I just as soon discuss & condemn the Romish Church then to discuss politics, even if two earlier posts already today may seem to belie this statement.

SA is doing a service in getting us to look up material that will show the laity where they are wrong to be in the Romish Church, I just ran into the ex-Catholic Journal just a week or so ago, which has an excellent article on The Papacy.

Just now looking for Is A Catholic Christian An Oxymoron? (PDF) in pamphlet form, which I think you might be able to print out yourself to handout to Catholics at anti-abortion rallies, I saw this new letter by Mike Gendron -- excellent-- Satan's Six Strategic Assaults on the Christian Faith (PDF) (You can order "Oxy..." from him by the way.

So, I'm really happy that SA does put up these articles on Satan's Church

Ah, and on the way home the Vicar of Satan added, Who am I to judge [queer] Clergy?
Yes Jim
The papal antichrist has compromised with the homosexuals. I guess the Vatican sodomy club have overcome the new pope to begin the legalisation of perversion and more Roman Catholic deletions of Bible laws and statutes.

Its a growing list
Idolatry is ok in the RCC
Blasphemy is ok in the RCC
Church traditions replace the Bible in the RCC
Paedophilia is ok in the RCC

And now
Homosexual practice is legalised in the RCC. By Pope Francis.

You don't need the Bible to be a Roman Catholic.
