Half a million Catholics flock to Copacabana beach

The event begun on Tuesday with Musicians and dancers entertaining the youths, who braved a chilly drizzle. The beach, lined with a series of large monitors, was the site of an evening Mass by local priests and Vatican officials. Later in the week it will serve as an altar for two big appearances by Pope Francis.

By early this morning already hundreds of thousands of people had packed the beach. Rain clouds cleared in time and pilgrims from around the world waved flags, sang and prayed as the archbishop of Rio, Orani Jo√£o Tempesta, led a mass to kick off the festivities in the country with the world's greatest number of Roman Catholics.

However the main attraction of the weeklong event will be two appearances by the Pope, where he will lead a huge mass. ...

Aye, Christopher. I wouldn't advise watching U-Tube for examples of open-air evangelism. Far better to read how our Lord Jesus Christ went about it, in the four gospels.

We should be inoffensive, polite and respectful, and let the word of God do its mysterious work in a sinner's heart. The common people "heard him gladly".

How I wish I was well enough to fly over and join you bro. It would be a great time. But just for your encouragement, when I started I knew much less than you do yourself. I gave out tracts and preached on the old soap box and talked to people about their souls. If there was a question I couldn't answer, I just said I didn't know, but would find out. It's the only way to learn, really. Gaining knowledge is fine, up to a point. But people really need a word from the Spirit, which convicts them of sin. And theological knowledge does not help much with something like that - it is given by the Spirit as and when and to whom he chooses. All we need is to be open to the leading of the Spirit, and in full submission to him, launching out into the unknown, filled with Christ and his love.

I would love, love, love to do that with you, John. Would be really great to be with someone who knew their stuff and to learn from it in real time. Man, I wish I had the knowledge to answer questions on the street. How about I get all of the ammenities together for some sort of booth, flyers, speakers, whatever, and fly you to Rhode Island? Ha-ha. Maybe Michael too since he is a Pastor and has such passion for preaching.

If I was over there at Rhode Island, I would say to you, "Come on Chris, let's get a table out on the path and give out tracts to passers-by, and talk to them about the Lord."

This is why a local church is so important. They can encourage you and disciple you and show you the ropes. You are wise not to go out without support from a church, although it is becoming increasingly difficult to find a church which would prayerfully support evangelistic work. But if there is one near you, it might be that they are already engaging in witnessing somewhere local. If so, go along and have a look. There is nothing more wonderful than standing up for the Lord in a dark and crooked generation, holding forth the words of life and light.

Hi Michael, I was only speaking for myself. I'm not at the point where I could do any of that because I'm not really equipped to give solid, thought provoking reasons or answer to questions yet.
I look forward to the day I can though because I would love to have a booth on a sidewalk or something. You all can do what you mentioned, but about all I can do for people right now is to pray for them.

Hmmm? How about educate, inform and warn people who profess to be born again Christians of the evil false priestcraft and spiritually adulterous false religion of Roman Catholicism, and then in much prayer and seeking God to go and witness of the Truth of Jesus Christ and lovingly protest against this man, who in a word Catholicism idolatrously makes to be as if he where God, calling him Holy Father, even that Francis 1, and many, many others, even pretend Christians in evangelical and Baptist churches might miraculously hear the Truth be convicted by the Holy Spirit, repent and be saved from there sins and the seduction of the Great Harlot of Babylon, and pretend Christianity.

btw we might as well start or press on and continue in this now because even if he never comes to Endicott, NY his influence and popularity are affecting people here today and misleading them away from the Truth of Jesus Christ.

Let's see...what would I do if his holiness came to New England? Hmmm, well, if he was outside my window, I would def take a look out of curiosity. Otherwise, I wouldn't care a bit.
Nobody can convince me that this guy isn't worshipped, short of being prayed to. The masses go into hysteria when they see him; Christ on Earth, the most holy see, king of kings, el papa, the chosen one of God. He is nothing but an old heretic, deceived, deluded, and living lavishly off of the great misfortunes and murders that took place during the inquisitions. The one true church is fabulously wealthy, yet they cry poverty; draining the faithful of every penny they can. The one true church is bursting with homosexuals and pedophiles, having to sell churches to settle lawsuits and hire attorneys. The one true church is provably false and replete with anti-biblical traditions, pagan rituals, heretical doctrines, and false worship...yet, they remain the one true church that the faithful will die defending, even though, biblically, they have no defense. Hmmm.
