Pope Francis forced into helicopter to avoid protests

The Pontiff’s plans were changed at the last minute after around 1,500 demonstrators arrived and burned an effigy tied to a lamppost. There were later clashes with police as officers tried to disperse the crowd with six detained and at least three injured.

There had been scenes of chaos as the Pope began his trip through Rio in a modest motorcade after arriving at 4pm local time. Dozens of pilgrims and well-wishers dashed to the open window of his Fiat car to greet the Pope directly.

Security experts said the Pope was left extremely vulnerable during the chaotic scenes when his car was mobbed by hundreds of Brazilians after becoming stuck in traffic in Rio. ...

I also agree with you, Jim. There's no reason for them not to pay for it themselves! After all, they have so much money in their bank account, they can't even count it! And to think it all comes from lying to innocent people and telling them they have the power to forgive sins, and get their love ones out of pergatory! Only God has the power to forgive sins, and pergitory was made up as a way to make money.

I don't see how people can be so blind, and revere the pope as much as they do! He's just an ordinary man like you and me. Not only that, but popes and officials in the catholic church have been known to be pedophiles, adulterers, blackmailers, and many other offensive sins. Sometimes I think people are "willingly ignorant". We need to reach these people with the gospel as soon as we can! The lord is coming back very soon, and they will soon realize that all their good works did them no good whatsoever! Very saddening, but at the same time, a good reminder! I'm not saying I'm better than them by any means, but I am better off!

Chris a very good observation on The Papacy

I think there are a lot of Brazilians, especially Christian one, who don't like $56,000,000 spend on displaying The Pope and the Papacy. The Romish Church should foot the entire bill.

Crazy how the Popes have been worshipped throughout the centuries. So many of them were blatant heretics, homosexuals, and the worst sort of criminals. These and others bought the papacy or it was purchased for them by their families; one of them being a murderous 12yr old.
Yet, each and every one of them was appointed by God Almighty Himself...hmmm. Well, God made another mistake once where He appointed two different Popes to power at the same time; apparently forgetting that He had already appointed one.
Considering the fact that there are different levels of suffering in Hell, what horrors do you suppose the popes, who have led billions to their destruction, will be in store for? I shudder to think abouy it.
What a great thing it would be if this Pope lost his blinders and saw the truth. What a witness he could be but I wonder if the "faithful" would lynch him as a heretic as opposed to hearing him.
