Study Shows Shift in Support for LGBTQ Rights Within Religious Groups

Just a week after the Supreme Court handed down key decisions pertaining to same-sex marriage, Barna Group researchers released a study that shows how much religious groups have shifted toward supporting LGBTQ rights since 2003.

Practicing Protestants were the only major faith group mentioned in the study in which a minority (32 percent) believes laws should be changed to give more freedom to the LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer) community, though even that number is up eight percentage points from a decade ago.

A majority of practicing Catholics (57 percent), those from other faiths (63 percent) and those with no faith (89 percent) also believe LGBTQ people should be given more legal rights. In 2003, by comparison, the only group in which a majority said they should be given these rights were those with no faith (66 percent). ...

Since the issue of prayer has been raised.

The issue of what constitutes effectual prayer will always be divisive, so please understand my below comments are not meant to guide anyone else, but it is something I personally believe and if it helps someone, so be it.

Here is the faith that pleases our heavenly Father. It is knowing with certainty that He is and He is a rewarder of those who seek Him through faith regardless of whether He answers or doesn’t answer the petition in a manner we understand. If we truly believe He will answer our prayers that are according to His will, then we have the faith that can move mountains. If we assign any other faith test than this, then we guilty of worshipping our faith rather than worshipping the faith giver.

What we ask God for, why we ask Him, in what manner we communicate with Him, and how we feel He will or has responded to our prayers is an “exact representation” of our individual concept of God and our spiritual maturity.

"Barna Group researchers released a study that shows how much religious groups have shifted toward supporting LGBTQ rights since 2003."

"Religious groups" is a pretty tenuous title in relation to Bible Christians. But the move of nominal Christians towards acceptance of the abomination and away from the Bible is no surprise and illustrates Bible ignorance in many churches.

The Bible believing Christian knows that the abomination is abhorrent to God and therefore should also be to the real believer. As Jesus Himself teaches none can change one jot or tittle of the Word of God without incurring the wrath of God.

"For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled." Mat 5:18

Of course there is so much more to this BUT I tend to think if we don't make repentance, genuine repentance and true prayer a priority in our lives and churches everything else won't come to that much, even "great preaching" will accomplish little if it is given to an unpraying church.
Michael, you raise some very important points, which the majority will ignore because of prayerlessness. I have found almost none who are interested in such depth of prayer, even though it is badly needed. But at least folks could get together and seek the Lord and tell him of their lack of intercessory interest, and acknowledge it, and mourn over it. Maybe then he would come down from heaven and revive his blood-bought ones.

Intercessory prayer, when the Spirit is leading and guiding it, is a far cry from praying for two minutes at a half-hour midweek prayer and study meeting. We need to get serious about this.

Possibly, but just as Luther didn't go to Rome to post his theses he did so at the local expression of apostasy and folly and for us there are many a place we might consider, and they aren't all SBC's either.

I tend to think we need a present day equivalent of Martin Luther nailing his 95 Theses to the false (although he imagined it could be reformed) castle church house door in Wittenburg.

AND FOR ONE if I may agree with you and go a mite further. We desperately need to repent of our prayerlessness (or worthless powerless praying, if you will) and make genuine intercessory prayer meetings a priority in our churches, seeking the face of God, His Righteousness, His Power, His Glory, the knowledge of His will for us and the Power of the Holy Spirit to live it out.

You are right, Rafael...those poor LGBTQ's are being kept down by the big, bad, nasty Christians. They have been handed 99% of all they have cried for, but cry foul over their plight to marry having to be fought for. Disgusting what they do behind closed doors, what they are fighting for, and what the next generation is being taught..."it's not a choice!" Just be you! Gay is okay!

Anyway, what's up with those stats?? 32% of protestants believe gay is okay? Huh? I don't get it because that number shouldn't even be a fraction of a percent. I wonder if people feel thay Gid has changed or if they are just not familiar with the Bible. Either way, mist go to church so where is the preaching?
57% of Roman Catholics? That seems low because the last stat I heard was that 2/3rds of them believed that gays should be allowed to marry.
