DOJ: Governments can punish homeschoolers
The U.S. Department of Justice has revealed in a court filing it agrees with the philosophy of the German government that bureaucrats can punish homeschooling parents.

The agency contended parental rights to keep children free from instruction that violates faith essentially are negligible when the government’s goal is an “open society.”

The arguments were made in a pleading before the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals that urges the judges to send a German homeschooling family, the Romeikes, back to Germany where members likely would face persecution.

“The goal in Germany is for an ‘open, pluralistic society,’” wrote the government’s pleading, signed by Senior Litigation Counsel Robert N. Markle in Washington. ...

However do agree we need more people sharing the gospel and it is more important than shooting off fireworks. But I don't go so far as to say that celebrating Independence Day here is wrong. Also, we are thankful for our brethren over there in the UK and other parts of the world.

Light shines brightest in the darkness..so Christians get oil for your lamps and keep it burning as the world gets darker..remember Jesus said He will come as a thief in the night and don't be like the 5 foolish virgins who had run out of oil so were not prepared to meet their groom..5 were and had bought extra oil and were prepared and went out to meet Him..the days are going to get much darker and it's happening so fast..and all over the world not just America.

Dear jpw, as stated by Michael Hranek, an excellent post. I will stick with the writer of Revelation and pray even so come Lord Jesus. The Lord has indicated that His return was a specific date, day and hour so I don't believe that one could hasten it through such a prayer. But I do believe that every one that has that hope keeps himself pure as He is pure. (I John 3:2,3) So, that such an outlook (regardless of your millennial beliefs)would keep us in humble repentance, and encourage us on in a firm stand for the Lord on the truths of His Word. Remember it the grace of that teaches us to live soberly, righteously and godly in this present world looking for the glorious appearing of Christ. I do believe that too few, including myself, think about with the seriousness they should, the fact the we will stand at the judgment seat of Christ and give an account. We live too much for temporal things instead of eternal and the Bible reminds us that where our treasure is where our heart be also. Thanks for the admonition.

For the record, the SCOTUS puts a lot of weight into precedents, so the chances of Roe v Wade being overturned are more than likely slim to none. Even if it was, it would just throw the issue back to the states, and more than likely any states that would then ban the procedure would be few and far between. So, it is futile to think that there will be a time in the future, regardless of who is the POTUS, that a woman will not be able to get an abortion if she so desires. (even in the latter scenario, she just has to drive farther for the procedure) Also, despite what the president seems to try and practice, there are 3 branches of government and a president does not have dictatorial powers.

Unless God sends another great awakening like we had under Edwards and Wesley, I don't see abortion becoming illegal in the U.S. I don't want to come across as saying God is limited and could not do that, but not being of the Kingdom Now or post mill persuasion, it seems like Scripture indicates that in last days things will become worse and worse and because our Lord said it will be as the days of Noah, every imagination of the heart of man will be evil continually. The good news is that it appears that the coming of our Lord is imminent,even so come quickly Lord Jesus!!

Hmmmm? We've already done just that, reading the Declaration of Independence this morning. It is a suggestion that I would thoroughly agree with BECAUSE the Declaration of Independence flows out of Biblical thought asserting and acknowledging the unalienable rights given to us by God that neither atheism, Catholicism, Islam, Socialism, Communism or any other ism could ever give anyone.

I suggest reading the Declaration of Independence today, if for no other reason than to remember where we came from, and how far we have gone astray. Learning of the founding principles might be a shock to some, especially those in government, many of whom are clueless.

For those unable/unwilling to do the math... that would be 5 justices nominated by so-called conservative presidents to 4 nominated by the so-called liberal presidents. Roe v. Wade still stands and the justices continue to rule favorably towards sodomy.

Are you still lacking understanding?
It is God who is completely sovereign over all His creation, every nation on earth and every living being throughout the universe. This nation has been living in sin, or one might say open warfare against God and you imagine a conservative president appointing judges to the Supreme Court is going to hold back His hand in giving the U.S. the wages of our sin?

btw you missed the intent of my comment to you - saying sinner's prayers until you are blue in the face doesn't change a person
God saving a person changes them, and if they are not changed something has been quite amiss in their (quote) praying or beliefs or both

such 'empty' sinners prayers do give some people a delusion that things are okay, or that they somehow relate to Baptist Doctrine.

So I take it that you don't believe that saying a sinner's prayer in a non-denomination church will deliever a sinner from moral and spiritual insanity either.

As respectfully and in desiring your genuine well being here and in eternity, may Holy God so unmistakeably deal with you until He has utterly destroyed all false hopes of well being on this earth and entrance into heaven until you cannot tolerate any longer substitues, counterfeits, excuses against and suppression of the Truth of God in your life.

IMHO this is something our nation and our churches need every bit as much as you, JY
