Supreme Court Bombshell: No Right to Remain Silent

The Supreme Court handed down a decision on June 17 that has been ignored by most media outlets, despite its devastating effect on one of the most fundamental rights protected by the Constitution.

In a 5-4 ruling, the justices ruled that a person no longer has the right to remain silent as guaranteed by the Fifth Amendment. In relevant part, the Fifth Amendment mandates that no one “shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself.”

Thanks to the Supreme Court’s decision in Salinas v. Texas, that part of the Bill of Rights has been excised — and has joined the list of so many other fundamental liberties that now lay on the scrap heap of history. ...

Ah, gentlemen,...
So how is it those same Catholics could have ruled in favor of Obamacare, after all if they can't rule correctly due to their religion, why do you support their decision on the presidents "healthcare" plan?

Ah, gentlemen, let me point out a couple of things. I don't like to see Romish folks in power because like Iggy Loyola, would what's white is black, and what is black is white, q.v., Ignatius of Loyola (be forewarned, Wikipedia even tries to make man of Satan look like a "Saint" Who is a Roman Catholic?. Both liberal and conservative Catholics tend to see things in black and white, and they get the colors mixed up.

So, why they should be in a legislative branch of govt. at all or probably executive either, it's an iffy proposition they should be in the judiciary.

Remember gentlemen, this group will probably approve of queer marriages because their church actually approves of queerness, q.v., Clerical Celibacy.

So, they are also wrong in this matter as well, really a pity we don't have conservative Jews on the Supreme Court. In church you can be dogmatic, in a secular government too many concrete heads makes it impossible to have a democracy. Same goes for theonomists, Views of the Prophesied Kingdom.

Isn't this ruling a good thing? I mean, we are still allowed to invoke the 5th Amendment, correct? We still kinda have the right to remain silent; we just have to be more knowledgeable about it.

I don't view judges by their religious affiliation as most of them are Catholic on both sides on the political aisle. I look at whether or not their strict constructionist or judicial activist. The 5th amendment had to do with testimony in a court of law and he clearly gave them permission before he decided to clam up. The author was obviously very progressive in his viewpoint and so I really don't agree with his premise. I do agree we are losing liberties left and right and both parties are culpable, but this guy is clueless in my opinion.
Very well said brother. Yes, we are losing out liberties, but then their is our heavenly Father that says when there is a conflict, we simply obey Him. You and I will agree on this point, but I appreciate your comment.

But, yes, UPS, there is some hyper-reaction in the article some of which I pointed out, considering the close decision. I wouldn't jump on the bandwagon and say Conservative Catholic group was correct.

The article pointed out where it was wrong. "The Atlantic," is considered an important force in American opinion. So, a major news source and opinion maker did pay attention to what had happened.

Also, I think the Judges have been watching too many cop shows on t.v. and that is one reason they came to this decision.

Might just think of all the great decisions the Supreme Court was going to come when the Republicans were in? Guess which Justices were busy "trashing," the Constitution! Ah, getting on those good Catholics onto the Court

I have to remind our Reformed Church friends when it comes to the Views of the Prophesied Kingdom. This Court has proved man isn't going to establish heaven on earth! The Unscriptural Theology of Amillennialism and Postmillennialism.

But, yes, UPS, there is some hyper-reaction in the article some of which I pointed out, considering the close decision. I wouldn't jump on the bandwagon and say Conservative Catholic group was correct.

If you read the following link

http://www.nolo.com/legal-encyclopedia/police-questioning-miranda-warnings-29930.html

from a law site that has no interest in the trial in question. The police and the justices are correct in what they did and how they decided.
