Pope blesses hundreds of Harley-Davidsons

Biker culture came to the Vatican on Sunday as Pope Francis blessed thousands of Harley-Davidsons and their riders celebrating the manufacturer's 110th anniversary with a loud parade and plenty of leather.

Thundering Harley engines nearly drowned out the Latin recitation of the "Our Father" prayer that accompanied Francis as he greeted the crowd before Mass. Standing in his open-top jeep, Francis drove up the main boulevard leading to St. Peter's Square, blessing the thousands of people in what was a giant Harley parking lot.

Once the service got under way, bikers in their trademark leather Harley vests sat in the square alongside nuns and tens of thousands of faithful Catholics taking part in an unrelated, two-day pro-life rally. ...

Chris, yes, but let's hope when people go to the Bible, they don't use the pick and pull verses helter-skelter out of the Bible! Principles of Bible Interpretation and there is the way of Prayer As Taught By Jesus, Part 1 and Prayer As Taught By Jesus, Part 2 or for some written material, Prayer.

Anyway, The Pope's Blessing is a curse.

That comment always sticks with me and I think of it often. "I don't know what the Bible says, but..."

This has been my experience with everyone I know. Everyone relies on the Pope, Mary, and some Saints to take care of their eternal security; never finding out for themselves what the Bible itself has to say. They will verify anything else anyone tells them, non-religious wise, wanting to hear this or see that for themselves before just believing anyone, but when it comes to the most important thing of all, the thing they have only one shot at to get right, they entrust it to mere sin-filled men. Their very eternity...I don't get it.

No! It is a pattern prayer teaching the different components that should make up genuine prayer.

or you put it out as it appears in the Message "Bible"(you can't make this stuff up)

So he said, “When you pray, say,

Father,
Reveal who you are.
Set the world right.
Keep us alive with three square meals.
Keep us forgiven with you and forgiving others.
Keep us safe from ourselves and the Devil.” (Luke 11:2-4)

Nothing new in there Jim, I am aware of RCC shortcomings and dont need your poor propaganda links to confuse the issue of this day. The issue raised is the LORDs Prayer. Not sure what honor that would be seeing that he stated that, "Jesus prayed the Lord's prayer." Two problems there, He never PRAYED the Lord's prayer, he simple gave it to the disciples as instruction. (obviously he had no sins for which to ask forgiveness) and two as previously pointed out the "Lord's prayer" is a misnomer as it is a prayer pattern for His disciples (those truly born again by the Spirit of God)So, not sure how you can give his words such accolades, nothing against John Yurich posting intended in my comment.

SteveR's postings, this and others here on SermonAudio, and his interaction with others illustrate a very telling Bible truth.

Proverbs 28
4 They that forsake the law praise the wicked: but such as keep the law contend with them.

and since much of the discussion has been about prayer, all of us should take to heart verse 9.

9 He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination.

The (quote) shortcomings of the rcc are not accidental mistakes out of ignorance and weakness but determined wilfull knowledgable thoroughly serious sin against the Living God, for idolatry is an iniquity of those who hate God, making the Roman Catholic Religion far more evil and wicked than many begin to imagine.

BTW their hatred of God shows up in the genuine born agin believers they have murdered in untold numbers through centuries of persecutions, did unto them, did unto Jesus Christ.

Somebody on down the line mentioned "empty chants". I have to agree with that because so many grow up memorizing, or reading the same things over and over, every Sat or Sun; never grasping any understanding. They just know what they are suppose to repeat, and when to repeat it. I can attest to this using my wife, and many others as examples who go to mass religiously solely for the indulgence and to avoid a mortal sin. I know a lady who goes 7/days/wk. No Roman Catholic I have ever spoke to (yet) had ever read the Bible, reads the Bible, or understands the contents of the Bible when asked. All they know is that they can't miss Mass, the eucharist, or forget their envelopes. They rely on the Pope and Mary for all that they don't know; expecting them to be their mediators before God, apparently believing they will take care if everything for them.
Are there born agains in the Roman church? Certainly, but I believe it's them that Christ says, "Come out of her..." to.

Yes, you could not gainsay my post, knowing that what I said was true, so you instead had a go at me for using smarticons! What on earth do you think SA provides them for, eh?

Now I will tell you why I am angry at the misuse of this prayer.

1. Unregenerate folks, whether Roman Catholics or others, are being encouraged to believe that God is their Father, and that they have some sort of claim on forgiveness for saying such a prayer.

2. Unregenerate folks, whether Roman Catholics or other paedobaptists, are encouraging themselves and their infants to believe they have some sort of claim on God, being told they have an interest in an imaginary covenant.

Around the UK, the prayer is recited parrot fashion by thousands of people who have no interest in God.

What you have to realise Steve is that mere recitation of a God-ordained set of words doesn't wash with God. Remember the psalms recited at every passover were the very words of God uttered by unregenerate Jews when Jesus walked the earth, and STILL DO.
Now the first words of the prayer are "Our Father", which unregenerate Roman Catholics and others can't claim anyway, so it is an affront to MY FATHER, which art in heaven.

SteveR they would only be poor propaganda links if I said the Romish Church was right!

We all know that sacraments e.g., Sacrifice of the Mass and prayers of the Romish Church completely lack efficacy. Any witch doctor could serve just as useful of agent as a priest for the useless work of a priest. (You might listen to sermons such as,
The Inadequacy of the Levitical Priesthood[/URL} )

I especially like that last paragraph of yours John U.K.!
