Another bakery sued for not making same-sex wedding cakes
‚ÄúThis Homophobic Bakery will Cater Dog Weddings but Not Gay Civil Unions.‚ÄĚ That‚Äôs the cute headline on The Atlantic Wire, the influential website of one of America‚Äôs most venerable, liberal magazines, The Atlantic. Cute, but superficial.

Basic news: A bakery in Colorado is facing a discrimination complaint after refusing to bake a cake for a same-sex wedding. According to the case, filed by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) on behalf of David Mullins and Charlie Craig, the owners of the bakery have a history of turning away same-sex couples.

The Colorado Attorney General’s office filed a formal complaint last week after the ACLU initiated the process last year. The case is scheduled for a hearing in September before Colorado’s Civil Rights Commission. ...

Please don't misunderstand. The issue is over what God hath said. i.e. Homosexuals can do everything others can do today, the issue is the term marriage because it is tied back to what God hath said and they want to challenge that.
But, you say the baker should refuse to bake a cake for such a event. What about the facility (owned by a realtor)that rents their building out for events? What about the Limo service (car dealer) that rents for events?
I understand the challenge is to what God said about marriage. H's are not interested in getting married as much as, out of their hostility, redefining it into meaninglessness.

As far as the building/limo rentals, the issue is quite similar. No private business should be *required* to provide services that conflict with the moral/ethical values the business holds.

JY - I think you raise an interesting point. I have no doubt that individuals will learn to be more creative rather than being able to rely on a collectivist state to back them up.... but at the same time being filled with the Holy Spirit, trusting God to walk us through these times.... as Christ our Lord and Savior. Good day!

But would the baker avoid being sued by homosexuals if the baker provided a cake even if the cake tasted awful from having a lot of salt in it? Providing a wedding cake to homosexuals that tastes awful would cease those lawsuits as the reason the reason the homosexuals filed a lawsuit was they were refused a cake.

It looks to me that bakers can't win either way. If don't make a cake they get sued, if they make the cake "christians" say they are condoning the event. i.e. we seem to hold bakers to a higher standard then we hold the rest of society. Do we expect realtors not to sell to a gay couple? Do we expect car dealers not to sell to a gay couple? Do we expect bakers not to sell to gay couples? hmm!
Providing a cake with a lot of salt in it to make it taste awful for a homosexual wedding is not condoning the event. It is making sure that no other homosexual couple asks the baker to make them a wedding cake. The homosexual couple could not sue the baker for providing a cake that tastes awful.

Right. So when dealing with those who would do the devil's business then drastic measures have to be employed like baking for a homosexual wedding a cake that has a lot of salt in it to taste awful. The homosexual couple could not sue the bakery for not providing them a cake.

Well of course love the homosexuals. But when dealing with those who would do the devil's business drastic measures have to be employed such as making a cake with a lot of salt that makes the cake taste awful for a homosexual wedding. That way the homosexual couple would not have any reason to sue the bakery for not providing a cake.

JY -- too much salt. funny.

here's a link to AW Pink, "Present Day Evangelism" -- regarding the idea of a prayer not being salvation in itself, but rather the Lordship of Christ. It is a voice recording, so is lacking in that way, but the sermon itself hits right on today.

not trying to bug you, was listening to this sermon the other day and thought of some of the discussions on here, and thought you may be interested.

first of all let me say that i am behind MR. Phillips the whole way .That with this anti-christian/pro-atheistic/pro-gay/pro-universalism movement in america if as christians we do not begin to stand up as a group to let our voices be herd than peopl like Phillips will take there stand be herd for a moment and then fade away into obscurity.

John Yurich USA--- I would plead with you to get your theology from the bible which says love those who persecute you insted of an old tv show.

"If owner Jack Phillips loses the case and refuses to comply with the order, he could face fines of $500 per case and up to a year in jail, his attorney said."

A year in jail?? It's getting very hard to obey God in America these days. America's official anti-Bible policies are spreading like a disease, which of course is what Liberalism is. And satanic churches such as the Episcopalian, ELCA, PCUSA etc are just as evil and antichrist.

Phillips decision relates to his vocation and serving God in society according to Scripture both of which are obviously very important to him.

This is not about baking or cake it is about a society becoming more and more anti-Christian and anti-Bible. Phillips by his action has made a witness statement to the American people, he stands by what God has stated in Scripture that God does not accept the abomination of homosexual sin, nor will He abominate marriage.

God be with Mr Phillips.

This is ridiculous. That bakery instead of refusing to make a cake for that homosexual wedding could have made a cake that used a lot of salt that would have made the cake taste awful. When dealing with those who would do the devil's business sometimes strong measures have to employed. There was an episode of Little House on The Prairie in which there were a couple of unscrupulous brothers who moved into Walnut Grove, Minnesota. The brothers purchased merchandise from town merchants, didn't pay for the merchandise and who terrerised a lot of the women in town. The minister of the church during the sermon stated that when dealing with the devil that methods have to employed that would not normally be done in order to stop those who do the devil's business.
