Rand Paul: Orwell's '1984' has arrived

The FBI wants back doors to all communications equipment and software. The NSA is grabbing trillions of phone records of American citizens. And reporters’ research apparently is a subject of interest at the Department of Justice.

All of this and more has triggered a surge of renewed interest in a recent video by Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., in which he declares that “1984,” the George Orwell novel about ultimate government disinformation, manipulation and control – is here.

“Dystopian novels were just that, bad utopias,” he said, “but not practically possible. One could always sigh in relief that such surveillance, such invasion of privacy, was not technologically possible.

“Until now. ...

Has anyone every pointed this out about Randy and Ronny Paul?
Wikipedia wrote:
A demagogue /?d?m????/ or rabble-rouser is a political leader in a democracy who appeals to the emotions, prejudices, and ignorance of the population in order to gain power and promote political motives. Demagogues usually oppose deliberation and advocate immediate, violent action to address a national crisis; they accuse moderate and thoughtful opponents of weakness. Demagogues have appeared in democracies since ancient Athens. They exploit a fundamental weakness in democracy: because ultimate power is held by the people, nothing stops the people from giving that power to someone who appeals to the lowest common denominator of a large segment of the population.
excerpt from Demagogue "1984" may be approaching, but demagogues we seem to always have with us.

They some something like political popes.

I apologize for any confusion. The 'he' in my reply to jpw was in reference to the husband of Dolores, who I understand from the earlier post from Dolores is not a Christian.

I feel jpw offered some fine advice, he does need your prayer. However he also needs your good conversation as a Godly woman.
1 Peter 3:1 Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives; 1 Peter 3:2 While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear.
1 Peter 3:3 Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; 1 Peter 3:4 But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price. 1 Peter 3:5 For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands: 1 Peter 3:6 Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.

It would be interesting to see a "man-on-the-street" interview asking people if they even know what "1984" is and/or who wrote it (who George Orwell was).

So much distracting fluff in this culture prevents so many people from learning or even wanting to learn "the old paths".

Great quote.

I'm sure that most any mere man or woman would be more than willing to fill the vacuum left by a discarded god (God himself, in our case, since there is no other).

Dolores, I'm a gal like you, and that's why I responded. I appreciate your desire for mercy and justice, both are needed in the body of Christ. And your desire for truth and righteousness. I will pray for you and your husband in these coming days! thank you for your kind words.

I've had many friends whose husbands were not believers. He needs your prayers, as I am sure you are already praying for him. But it is the Lord that does the opening of the eyes. Please cast away thoughts that do not come from Christ, such as that you are alone, because nothing can cast you from the love of Christ, if you truly are His. These days will call many to a greater faith, it is very needed, but God will provide that as well.

Do you have a fellowship of believers?

Just got on SermonAudio this morning and have glanced briefly at your posts, and what you've been saying and the 'response' of others has touched something I think about from time to time, it is this:

Sadly sometimes, far too often, in today's churches it is not safe to really share what one is going through.

BUT It is always safe, and the right thing for a child of God to do, no matter what kind of mess, trial, failure, persecution, whatsoever we are in, to pour out our hearts to God - to cast all our care upon Him because He, the God of all grace cares for us.

AND LET ME ADD THIS: We who are further along in our walk with the Lord (not because we are any better who btw should know all too well, we still have a lot of learning and growing to do) ought to lift up our brothers and sisters in prayer when we see they are going through difficult things.

And what u said jpw came straight ftom God..I got on this site because I wanted to interact with other christians as I don't have a husband that is saved..I felt like everyone was against me and the same feeling as monica on another site. She was mocked and ridculed by the others except u and your remarks are different kinder. I thought about the woman who was caught in adultry..the crowd was wanting to stone her but Jesus showed her mercy and love.I did not know it was illegal to say that and the girl probably didn't either. You showed me mercy and kindness..your posts always bless me..God has put you there to conteract some of the remarks made by others..Ithink you must be a preacher.

Dolores, maybe you are legit, I had my concerns.... yes, facebook is not private, it is a huge data base gathering point. and there are much better examples, so perhaps the Lord is opening your eyes to the persecution at hand.... yes, this is cause to weep. the open society is closing before our eyes. if there are questions that we have, it is time to start printing the information and getting it in hand, reading and understanding. I have long felt the internet was given by God as a tool for believers to gather information they need for the coming days. And also a time to prepare spiritually, or "count the cost" as they say. when people put footage out of Sy. and whatever else, we dismiss, ignore and always think we have tomorrow. reminds me of the verse about "redeeming the time". when we have an opportunity at hand, it is not guaranteed for tomorrow.

as for persecution, the NT teaches how to walk in those times, we follow in the footsteps of the apostles and Christ Himself. Our greatest fear should be in leaving the faith, there is usually a remnant that will remain in Christ. wow, this is something to pray about isn't it? easier to say than to live out! Good day!

Dolores...it's okay, stick around. I would have never quoted that but I get your logic. I read through all of your comments and I understand your thought process. Some things are just better left alone and not repeated. I know hypocrisy can be frustrating, for sure, wondering why someone else can say something, but I can't, but it's better for everyone to just bite their tongues at times do as not to be misunderstood.
I went through something similar not long ago and got taken to task like you. I never would have repeated what you did, right or wrong, but I did make another comment that lit a fire that didn't burn out quickly. I know what I meant but couldn't convey my thoughts properly so it looked like something else to everyone and I heard about it. To this day, I don't know what I really said wrong.
Anyway, I really have to bite my tongue at times because I know that something I may want to say will be taken wrong. So, if I can't find a way to convey my thoughts properly, I'll usually shy away from posting it up.

Facebook is a social network of friends not a Public Forum as is being said..only your network of friends read your post and apparently one of them chose to make a report of being offended which u can do..I read about it in the paper and on the internet not on facebook because I am not her friend..nor do I want to be! Yes I almost didn't put it on there what she said..but didn't know how many had heard it..so I made the mistake of putting it on there..sorry if I offended anyone..I certainly didn't intend to..don't think I will ever post anything ever again on here..this was a first and last time

I have not said that you are bigoted. I will guarantee you that the fact used the "n" word in a post will mean that some will judge that way. The girl, as stated, advocated a violent act against the POTUS in a LARGE public forum, all I am saying is that actions have consequences, she may indeed have just had a faux pas in judgment but I don't think the government acted unjustly. I apologize for your perception that I did something unkind as that was never intended. I would say that you are correct about the news media and they should rightfully be condemned. I do appreciate your warning and admonition to be vigilant about losing our freedoms. IMHO, I agree with jpw, the example from the girl from is not a good example to use.

And Jim you need to stop acting like we have not had over 4 years of democratic control, if the president wanted this to end, which he obviously does not, he could have ended it. You want to look back and pass blame, start with FDR.

Dolores the majority of people support Majority Views NSA Phone Tracking as Acceptable Anti-terror Tactic as Pew Research has pointed out.

If Rand (or Ron) Paul, are so moral, how come they gave so little attention to The Record of Republican Corruption or examine some of the ideas to control lobbyists? ‘Evil’ lobbyist Jack Abramoff talk US politics (short YouTube).

Perhaps Republican politicians are just too simple-minded to think about more than one thing at once, but more likely crafty enough to know that the typical Republican voter is too-simple minded to notice when a "bait and switch," is foisted on them? Congress really deserve to low opinion that the general public has of them.

Dolores, but that kind of talk does not in my mind represent the many people who are facing persecution right now and are operating in a Godly manner. I wouldn't associate the two together. that's been said over and over, and you cannot think of another example, therefore, I think this conversation is a waste of time, now back to the topic, I hope.

One more comment to unprofitable servant, your comments to me were not not very kind either..u don't know me or my beliefs yet u condrmned me because I saw something that bothered me about our freedom of speech ehich our medie uses daily with offensive words that are so gross snd vulgar and so what is our attitude but one girl say one word and it's spread in newspapers and she is fined. This to ME was a very good example of our freedom of speech is being taken away from us slowly and christisns especially are being harassed by our government. To say nothing is to agree with what's done.. that bothered me and I commented that's all and I kicked a hornet's nest and to you have a good day sir..

I have a white friend who has the sweetest black grandchild and two great grand children who are black..our president being black is not what's bothering me and I fo pray for him and his safety almost daily
