Author Stephen King’s Pro-God Response to Atheists and Non-Believers

On his belief in God and whether it has changed over time

"I choose to believe it. ... I mean, there's no downside to that. If you say, 'Well, OK, I don't believe in God. There's no evidence of God,' then you're missing the stars in the sky and you're missing the sunrises and sunsets and you're missing the fact that bees pollinate all these crops and keep us alive and the way that everything seems to work together. Everything is sort of built in a way that to me suggests intelligent design. But, at the same time, there's a lot of things in life where you say to yourself, 'Well, if this is God's plan, it's very peculiar,' and you have to wonder about that guy's personality — the big guy's personality. And the thing is — I may have told you last time that I believe in God — what I'm saying now is I choose to believe in God, but I have serious doubts and I refuse to be pinned down to something that I ...

Michael, the Bible is the only way to go. Now that's what I did, sat down and read the Bible from cover to cover! Like you, except for my mother, and I wasn't a Catholic but a Methodist, so in most respects I didn't have a mentor in Christianity--except God and His Word.

He is a noted writer, and I'm glad Michael that God used a work of his to understand God better. I have to say Tolstoy was a big help for me.
Jim,
Just wanted to post, Yes! God did use Stephen King's fiction in my life but when all is said and done it was when He got me to read the Bible for myself that I truly learned the Truth of Christ, something no work of fiction could ever really do.

Kind of like the man going through a difficult time whose family tells him he needs God, and he realizes, Yes! he needs God and begins to attend church AND when he reads the Bible for himself to see what Christianity is really all about, what he is getting himself into, that God uses His word to bring him to faith in Chirst, as one preacher on SermonAudio testifies how he read the Bible one and an half times seeking God until God brought him to Salvation.

Thank you, I am admonished to pray for Stephen King, shamefully something I should have been doing for a long time, as God used one of his fictional novels to make me aware genuine Biblical Christianity is something far more than Sunday morning church attendance and religious symbols, rather real faith in a real God, as story too long to tell here.

Mr. King is using Pascal's Wager to wit:

"....
If God doesn’t exist, and you live as though He doesn’t exist, you have no losses.5
If God doesn’t exist, and you live as though He does, you have no losses but gain the advantages of a better life.
If God does exist, and you live as though He doesn’t, you lose big time.
If God does exist, and you live as though He does, you have no losses and gain everything.

"Now living as though God exists involves far more than just acknowledging that He exists (‘even the demons believe and tremble’ James 2:19). It must involve a recognition of the need for God’s forgiveness in Jesus Christ. By using Pascal’s Wager you can help your friend see that they are gambling with their eternal life. If they really want to minimize their losses, it is worth their while to give you the time to share with them about the reality of the Creator-God and the need to be saved from sin’s consequences in the coming judgment." excerpt from, Pascal's Wager.

Unfortunately if you visit this site for the first time I wants to start an introductory video--very annoying, but the above is a good comment.

Yes, excellent comment 1517
