Vatican officials decry persecution of Christians around the world
More than 100,000 Christians are killed each year because of their faith, and millions more face bigotry, intolerance and marginalization because of their beliefs, a Vatican official said.
Archbishop Silvano Tomasi, the Vatican's permanent observer to U.S. agencies in Geneva, told the Human Rights Council May 27 that "credible research" by Massimo Introvigne, a former representative of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe on combating intolerance and discrimination against Christians, "has reached the shocking conclusion that an estimate of more than 100,000 Christians are violently killed because of some relation to their faith every year."
In addition, he said, "in some Western countries, where historically the Christian presence has been an integral part of society, a trend emerges that tends to marginalize Christianity in public life, ignore historic and social...
James is back wrote: Fascinating the Vatican is outraged because Christians are dying for their faith. 100 million Christians burned alive and tortured for their faith and unwillingness to recant and bow before the wafer.
Well said James, thanks. I couldn't agree more. I guess in their mind it depends on who is doing the killing?
""in some Western countries, where historically the Christian presence has been an integral part of society, a trend emerges that tends to marginalize Christianity in public life""
This is a good point and affects all quote, "western countries" especially Europe and UK. However the truth be told what he is referring to is homosexuality which is becoming a dominant world power in morals politics and society. Most of the reprobates don't really care how people identify themselves in regard to "sexual orientation" which is a problem that Christians have on this battle front. The Christian struggle with this is the same struggle experienced over centuries - battling sin and its power over mankind. Even the churches, eg Church of Scotland recently, have chickened out on this fight and looked for compromise. But the battle is a spiritual one as ever and God will be victorious and the reprobates will go to hell, both those who don't and those who do belong to a religion.
Eph 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
