Teacher Admits She ‘Prayed Out Loud’ During Violent Tornado

On Tuesday, we told you about Rhonda Crosswhite, a brave, sixth-grade teacher at Plaza Tower Elementary School in Moore, Oklahoma. While she has spoken openly with media about her experience comforting students during the tornado, one of her admissions is particularly interesting.

“I did the teacher thing that we’re probably not supposed to do. I prayed — and I prayed out loud,” she said in an interview with NBC News following the violent storm.

Considering her situation at the time of the invocation, it’s understandable why Crosswhite risked facing criticism and potential claims that she violated the separation of church and state. Her life — and the lives of the children she was protecting — hung in the balance. ...

Pray on teachers. Our children need all the prayer they can get especially during a deadly tornado. To threaten her job is ludicrous beyond description.

She did what all teachers should do -- call upon the mercy and protection of the the Almighty. She should do it publicly and she should encourage her students to do so. Isn't a part of education to educate? Teachers teach.

Well, I don't see what the problem here would be, it's not like she ask the class to pray with her. It wasn't a corporate prayer! I don't get it. I would like to think many there where doing the same thing.

Boy, isn't it disturbing that saying a prayer nowadays is considered risky business and those who take that risk are considered brave. Strange days.

The news says:

I don't know why it should cause any criticism. It's not like Congress was trying to establish a state religion there in the midst of her prayer.
