The College Bubble Is Finally Bursting

Private colleges are offering record financial assistance to keep classrooms full, according to the Wall Street Journal's Ruth Simon.

Some schools are seeing just 20% of the students they accepted enrolling, versus the usual rate of 33%. These schools have raised tuition discount rate — the price after grants and scholarships — to an all-time high of 45%.

Meanwhile, the median sticker price increased just 3.9% last fall, the smallest gains in 12 years. And at public schools, the sticker price climbed just 4.8%, also a 12-year low. ...

I went to college largely under pressure from my mom, who was influenced by the feminists and was convinced it was necessary to succeed in a career. However, it has done absolutely nothing for me. I honestly wish I'd never even gone. I have a job as opposed to a "career" and it doesn't even require a college degree. I can hardly think of anything that wastes both time and money (a lot of it!) more than college. If I had a chance at a do over, I would not go. I actually regret that I did.
That's interesting to hear. A manager in another group asked me if I had kids. I told her no but if I could do life over again I'd have "done better" and had kids when I could, even as she did. I then congratulated her for having two kids of her own even while working full-time. To my astonishment her face fell, then she looked at me and said, "I wish that I had MORE (kids)."

Feminism and post WWII/depression college/career expectations have screwed-up a lot of people, opportunity-wise.

My sister fulfilled the feminist narrative in spades, becoming a doctor--but almost forfeited her chance to have a kid of her own (were it not for IVF and adoption) by the time she was 40. School and work chewed-up her prime child-bearing years.

Wow, John Y., afraid someone is going to find out your true identity and turn you in to your local priest as a heretic? By the way, The Scandal of the Catholic Priesthood.
And just what is wrong with a woman having a college degree if she is going to be a homemaker? A wife needs a nursing degree to know how to use a blood pressure machine and an electrocardiogram machine. I haven't made contact with my Baptist friend in 5 years because he has an unlisted telephone number which I lost, I moved since the last time I saw him and I changed my telephone number.

My Baptist friend doesn't know where I reside because I moved since the last time I saw him 5 years ago, I changed my telephone number and his telephone number is unlisted. So I have no way of finding his telephone number. He and I went to elementary school for about 3 years until he moved to the neighboring town.

Everybody needs Christian friends. We learn from them, grow with them, and they help to keep us in sync, both mentally and spiritually. You asked once, "who needs friends?" We all need Christian friends. I know you are ultra shy, John, but you really could use a few, as we all do.

Like someone professing Christ is supposed to obey him. What's your excuse for not obeying? Oh yeah, it doesn't endanger your salvation if you don't.

Maybe she'll do the same with you, because it won't endanger her salvation is she doesn't.

I've known some really nice Catholic girls (too bad they weren't Christian!) And John Y., why do you think an American girl is going to do everything you wish? Wife for various reasons really does have to agree with the husband on being Christian, but then you agree you go in the same direction --more but probably less in other areas of life. Instructions-to-husbands-fathers-and-their-wives Instructions to Husbands, Fathers and Their Wives.
Anyway, until you show marks-of-the-true-believer Marks of the True Believer please stay away from all Christian women until you Come Out Of The Catholic Church
It is obvious that you have limited perspicacity. What is wrong with a woman receiving a college degree in Nursing if they will not work as a Nurse but only be a homemaker? And I believe my wife will obey me because a wife is supposed to obey her husband.
