Greg Laurie to Gay Activists: 'I Won't Back Down'

A California megachurch pastor involved in the National Day of Prayer who has recently come under fire for his views on homosexuality has declared that he will not be intimidated.

At a prayer event held Wednesday morning at the Washington, D.C., office of the Family Research Council, Pastor Greg Laurie told those gathered, "I won't back down."

"They do not want me to pray. They describe me as 'homophobic' and so forth. How can you deal with such a situation? We're in a time in our country now where I'm attacked because I believe what the Bible teaches," said Laurie, ahead of Thursday's National Day of Prayer. ...

Disciple,Your post was very graciously given and has many excellent points. I can only wish my thoughts can be given in the same spirit. You spoke of the difference between a call to discipleship and salvation. The Lord said, What does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses his own soul (salvation). Yet, if we look at its context in both Matthew and Mark the passage is directly proceeded by our Lord saying, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. So, Jesus saw no difference in the call to discipleship and the call to salvation. You also stated, "But to use fear as a method to enable them to walk in a godly manner is clearly un-biblical." Then what will we do with II Corinthians 7:1 and the apostle Paul keeping his body under subjection lest he be castaway? The Lord said being born from above produces a visible effect in John 3. Also, I John doesn't say if false teachers walk in darkness and claim to have fellowship they are liars, it says if we. Faith that produces NO works is a dead faith. As far as being carnal, must we not all confess we fight daily to put to death through the Spirit our fleshly desires and mourn the amount of influence they yet have in our lives. May God bless your work at the website.

Thank God Greg is standing his ground while many other pastors are buckling under the weight of "intolerance."

I thing we should be praying for brother Greg rather than picking him apart. Besides your comment doesn't make sense - if you you don't agree with "remember me" you're having issues with the Bible and the Lord Jesus Himself for He accepted the thief's prayer (see Luke 24:42-43). As for "Lordship salvation" and "easy believism" see my blog on the "Examination of Paul Washer's Doctrine of the Gospel" : http://www.wordsofthislife.ca/2013/04/introductory-remarks-i-originally.html

Chris, in the thread you pointed out the large number of Catholics in R.I., I recommend people see that thread, one has to realize that Should Roman Catholicism really be classified as a Christian religion? -- No. (PDF). The Catholic laity are the biggest supporter of queers since they have so many queer priests. The laity support what the priests do and not what they hypocritically say from the pulpit.

Another state with above average percentage of Catholics, Maryland, (q.v. Religious Identity: States Differ Widely ) Also states that just have a large number of Catholics --Calif. has the most-- also have a hard time in handling the queer question.

Apparently Greg Laurie is at least partially Charismatic (q.v. Charismatic Chaos or get the book, which isn't free, but low priced, Charismatic Chaos ) The National Day of Prayer is a non-starter for Prayer.

I just can't believe how quickly they have risen to power and how the lifestyle is being accepted worldwide.
All of those millions of U.S. divorces have inadvertently ushered in SSM. Gays have had nothing to do with the junks yards full of wrecked Christian marriages. All they're asking for is having a shot at the estate of marriage since Christians couldn't even follow their own sacred scriptures in this arena.

Cliff, well encourage people to testify for Christ, if they get fired, have them come to America! We have a shortage of Christians, especially with Romanizing America Through Illegal Immigration, and as you probably noticed letting many of the aforementioned in here legally and Muhammadans as well, I'm sure there are many good churches that will give these folks a helping hand, if they come over here We can never have too many Christians here, God knows we have way too many of the other types!

Good point, Jim.

My sister is a doctor and has offered to pray for and with many of her patients without first checking to see if they are true Christians or not. This appears to be a considerate action on her part as well as an effective evangelical tool. As long as the prayer is clearly verbalized as a proper Biblical appeal by the one praying to God and his will, then it's probably OK to do what Greg Laurie is doing.

I always like to listen to the audible prayers of our congregation's most faithful members just to hear how a true Christian should pray. Hopefully those in Greg Laurie's audience will do likewise.

Oh, and when praying with a known non-believer, ALWAYS make sure you have the last word (close the prayer) so you can "clean-up" any less-than-Biblical utterances by the other person.

God only pays attention to prayer from those in his family, queers are not in his family.

1 Corinthians 6
9 Or do you not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals,
10 nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, shall inherit the kingdom of God.---NASB

I'm glad whenever Christians show their true faith in Jesus Christ by not backing down from the Word of God. Let God be true and every man a liar.

The homosexual agenda is not about marriage equality. Never has been or will be. The agenda is to do away with marriage completely.

The government is using the homosexual rights agenda to advance the restriction of free speech with the intent to criminalize Christian expression.

Those of you who think that it is anything other needs to wake up to reality!! But then what else can be expected from the dumbed down society. One day in the not so distant future we will all have lost our individual freedoms and are subjects of the ruling class.
