Military Chaplains Must Contend With 'Hate Speech' Accusations; Inclusive Prayers Not an Issue, Senate Chaplain Says
Military chaplains cannot be forced to do something in opposition to their theology, but they may have problems with being accused of "hate speech" for teaching what scripture says about homosexuality, Barry Black, the U.S. Senate Chaplain and a former military chaplain, told a Heritage Foundation audience Monday. He also said he does not believe that the occasions where military chaplains are expected to pray inclusive prayers is a serious problem.
The military directives make clear, Black said, that military chaplains cannot be forced to do something they are opposed to doctrinally. He added, though, that some military chaplains may find themselves in a bind because of the scripture passages that describe homosexual behavior as a sin.
"I can see many military chaplains having some problems because, to teach the passages of Paul with exegetical integrity would mean being accused of engaging in...
"Can a real christian be a chaplain? They must minister equally to all religions the same, even carrying the Koran, is this not a denial of the gospel!" 100% misinformed! Firstly, we are to help all service members as nay devout Christian would his neighbor. I more specifically minister to those of like faith. I have never touched a Koran during several years of service as a chaplain-my only sacred text is the Bible. Admittedly, our days in the chaplaincy as it has existed may be numbered.
Help all service members in ones neighbor...minister to those of like faith.
Many chaplains make it to Major and can earn upwards of $95k with a benefits package that most pastors could only dream of. If chaplains say nothing about homosexuality they get to keep their jobs and feed their families. If they speak out against same sex marriage, they get to pound sand. Which path will the chaplain corps take?
Can a real christian be a chaplain? They must minister equally to all religions the same, even carrying the Koran, is this not a denial of the gospel! To be a chaplain one must be ecumenical !! See Matt. 10:33
So be it. I do not pretend this would be easy, but chaplain and servicemen who are Christian should not back down, even if it meant Court-Martial. Think of it, facing Court-Martial for the honor of Christ! Higher honor than the Congressional Medal of Honor by far. God bless those who faithfully serve Him and country in the face of this perverse and conspicuous evil.
