Wash. State Suing Christian Florist After She Refuses to Provide Flowers for Gay Wedding

Washington State Attorney General Bob Ferguson has filed a consumer protection lawsuit against a business that refused to provide services for a same-sex wedding. Arlene’s Flowers & Gifts, located in Richland, is the focus of the legal drama, after its owner cited Christian views and apologized for an apparent inability to offer up flowers for the nuptials.

SeattlePI.com reports that the choice to file a lawsuit came after Ferguson attempted to get owner Barronelle Stutzman to reconsider the refusal to provide wedding flowers to a customer named Robert Ingersoll. The incident began on March 1, when the client first learned of Stutzman’s views. ...

I am not cognizant of what post that I made that you are referencing. If you would have read the comments in the original article you would have read that I got the idea of providing wilted flowers to homosexuals from those comments. Somebody else suggested that a photographer leave the lens cap on at the homosexual wedding and a baker make a cake that is uneatable.

Even many Jesuits would know they may have rectors, but are notably lacking in rectitude. Abuse by Priests (PDF).

The church scene in Wales is not what it was in 1904/5. Most nonconformist chapels are gospel-less, dwindling - soon to depart, going through the religious motions, being converted into auction houses, garages, houses etc. well you know all that probably. One every week comes up for sale.

And yet, there are still some amazing churches dotted about, small but faithful, steering clear of the ecumenical movement with its ridiculous anglican alpha course, still holding to the old paths and the KJV.

Send me a mail if you wish, and in due course I will get back to you, but it may not be until the weekend.

In the meantime, I will continue to bear you up before the throne of grace. May the Lord be pleased to give you relief.
PS. Better still do you Skype?
You're going to "ping" me?

What is this "pinging"?

Do I "Skype"?

Man, won't a plain phone call do?

Perfect...thanks Lisa. I agree completely...what a difficult position to be in when you just want to shake them and share the truth with them. Instead, within the context of secular work, you can only sit back while your heart silently breaks.

Though I am not in the same field as you I am also a professional and understand all too well the pressures experienced by Christians living in today's society.

View them not so much as witches, but as sinners needing the love and grace of God and you should find many of the difficulties will vanish away.

The Lord bless you in his service and grant you many encouragements!

Hello John UK

How are you dear brother? Trust you are going from strength to strength.

I wonder where Lisa lives in relation to you?

Maybe you can email me your phone number some time. Would love to have a catch up, if you are up to it.

Lord bless!

The struggle was...
Hi Lisa

A number of points:
You are a professional. You are paid by the NHS. You are meeting these people in the context of work.

So you have a duty to God to give your best in your secular calling, as well as legal duties to your employers and clients.

Even if you had no opportunities to openly speak about the Lord, the way you live and conduct yourself at work should speak volumes about you and will undoubtedly lead to people asking.

And you are quite right to pray for opportunities, and to take them up as they arise.

But being intimidated by their paraphernalia is superstitious. Let me explain. I am a first generation Hindu and so all my family still worship Hindu 'gods'. Most Hindus have home shrines with pictures and statues of their 'gods'. They also eat food offered to idols. Now I know that these things amount to devil worship, but the pictures, statues etc. do not intimidate me in the least. I DO NOT eat food offered to their idols, not because there is anything wrong with it, but for their consciences.

Given the current climate in the UK we must heed:

Matthew 10:16
Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves!

Lisa, if you are led by the Spirit, you will not be far off the mark. Besides, a Christian civil servant is worth a hundred worldlings.

Yes, evangelism must be with love and respect, with humility and boldness; never patronising, never haughty, never judgmental. And we should remember that we have the sweet savour of Christ as God sees us, no matter how our evangelism transpires.

2 Corinthians 2:14-16 KJV
14 Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place.
15 For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish:
16 To the one we are the savour of death unto death; and to the other the savour of life unto life. And who is sufficient for these things?

God bless the work, lead, guide and protect you.

Please forgive me! The power of the Internet- my comments were not written by a sharp spirit. More by a sinner very conscious that she may be completely wrong in her attitude of dealing with these issues ( also conscious of being on a publicly accessible forum and not wanting to breach my patients confidentiality) . The struggle was- I initially wanted to refuse these cases. At the end of the day, we all know the eph 6 battle ( for we wrestle not against flesh and blood). So imagine having to sit there facing folk with clear demonic paraphernalia on show and remain calm composed and professional. This cannot be done in the flesh. Eventually I have gotten to the place where I can sit, listen, be professional, feel great compassion for these lost souls, pray for them and have interesting spirit led conversations that are not compromising. For example - when talking about suicide one could explore- where donyounthink you will go if you die.

It's a struggle.

Thanks Lisa. I think you may have still taken my question the wrong way though because you sounded a little sharp. I really was just curious as to what qualified the counsel to witches as
being a struggle, irregardless of the rest of the post or the content of the article.
Thanks for the response and I totally agree with you.

Ok- we all know that marriage is one man one woman, so it doesn't matter what the leftys called these civil partnerships- they cannot be marriages. End of.
A pastor must enter into dialogue, he could perhaps ask the couple to his house for a ' relationship counselling course' based upon the king James bible. He could suggest that he would always do this to any couple wishing to have their union blessed by our holy god. He could explain that it was the church policy that he was unable to provide the blessing they require until he was satisfied that they were understanding of Christian unions ( as he would to all couples wishing marriage) ....and then the adventure begins and that pastor has engaged a pair of sinners and they are a captive audience to the power of the gospel. Of course the pastor must be shod in armor, pleading the blood....I cannot tell you the exact way this should go because it would be dictated by the holy spirit thereafter.

Ok I work in the uk and I am a psychiatrist. That means I work for a government agency called the national health service. I am a medical dr. I treat folk who are acutely mentally unwell. My remit ( for which I am paid) is to assess and prescribe medication or refer on to another agency. I used to try preach the gospel but it was not the right setting and unprofessional - I had to really go before the lord about this- but I feel that it has to do with stealing. See I'm paid to be a medical dr, not an evangelist. ( that doesn't stop me preaching the gospel but I wouldn't be obvious). So yes I come into contact with witches ( they have lots of " mental illness" as you might expect. I don't advertise as a Christian therapist because I don't need to advertise- my clinics are full.

Yes, we are all sinners, with me being, previously, one of the worst of the worst...and I can prove it...ha-ha.
Anyway, God makes it clear that there are differing levels of sin and differing levels of eternal suffering. Will the kindly old grandma suffer the same eternal torment as Hitler or Mussolini because she never accepted Christ?
God makes it clear, over and over, that the sin of homosexuality is one of the most grievous. Sin is sin and ends in death, but one is not necessarily on the same level as the next. I don't agree with the homosexual sympathizers in that we should not throw stones because of our own sinful pasts. I agree, for sure, that we HAVE TO pray for them, but to show any sort of sympathy?
