I quit: Joel Osteen target of elaborate hoax

Joel Osteen is quitting his church and abandoning his Christian faith, according to an elaborate Internet hoax targeting the Texas megapastor.

Osteen, the very visible face of the Lakewood Church in Houston since 1999, is, in reality, not quitting, despite several phony websites, news stories and even a YouTube video declaring otherwise.

I could not agree more. He certainly is. And I'm not saying anyone here was doing it, but often there is a degree of mocking and lack of humility when people talk about false teachers.

Who are we to judge? I often hear this in discussions of men like osteen, but There must be discernment in what and who we listen to. If a mans teaching does not line up with Gods word it should be pointed out, and people should be warned. The teaching should be the focus though, not so much the man, though they should be called out. And there needs to be a measure of humility in pointing these things out.

Osteens teaching may be very shallow. But making up an elaborate lie about him quitting is no better, and a poor way to make a point

Just to clarify, the phrase "I guess it takes one to know one" belonged to Steve's original post.

I just read it again and it looks like I was saying that to him...ha-ha.

I'll have to read up on who he is, but I have noticed a lot of fighting between the holy rollers, now and in the past. One is always speaking out against the other, yet, judging by their own doctrinal
"revelations", comprimises, or new words from the Lord, words the Lord has kept secret until now, they are no better and have no reason to be judging anyone. Kind of like one thief saying to another, "stay away from me, you are a thief.
I'm assuming it's jealousy because each one wants to be God's mouthpiece; believing that they alone hold the keys to Heaven. Why can't born again Christians simply stick to the Bible? We wouldn't have these problems. Maybe they find it dull and boring; always looking for a new edge to draw attention their way.

Say I was a thief, a liar, a drunkard, or whatever...I would never judge anyone else who did the same because I would be a hypocrite. I see things much different when it comes to these mega church pastors, or any public, Christian figure. I think they should be held to much higher standards because they have so much influence over their enormous flocks, and really, have the power of salvation and condemnation at their disposal for anyone who will put their words above what the Bible has to say. Many of these pastors are caving in to the pro-gay movement, compromising God's word, and leading the ignorant and weak to their eternal destruction. Joel Olsteen, along with the others, should be held to much higher standards, because of their worldwide influence. Joel Olsteen is sympathetic to the gay plight, and he is afraid to answer direct questions on very important Biblical topics because, like the others, he doesn't want to offend anyone. I wonder how God feels about this and I wonder how many lost souls he will be responsible for?
This is how I see it anyway...
Excellent, Chris.

As I read some of the responses, I can only think, who are we to judge? We need to deify and hold one accountable in a loving Christ like way. Joel Olsteen confesses he is a Christian. Then he is a part of the body. If anyone has a discrepancy with what he preaches then it should be presented to him with brotherly love. It is the Holy Spirit's conviction that will speak to us. Stop the harsh critism of one another as we are one I Christ. Begin to lift up, edify, follow what we are told in Matthew regarding discrepancies. As for the hoax, who cares? Those who continue to bro beat the subject make it even worse. Joel is a man and a sinner just as you and I. Put your stones down. Ignore the gossip (hoax), and do god's will. Prayer for Joel and his family,
Prayer for the hoaxster, prayer for the body. God Bless.

Like I said. One can only wish the hoax was true . I'm not sorry . I refuse to defend a " pastor who doesn't want to offend anybody and preaches half truths" . Save the phony Christianity for those who like their ears tickled with feel good sermons.

Our prayers also for the Warrens and the entire Saddleback Church congregation too. We know two missionaries from Saddleback and they seem to withstand attacks from both left and right in stride. But I dont think anyone can be prepared to be attacked at a time as this.

Thanks for letting us know, as I tune out the SSM lobby. But it must be difficult to tune out that media in So CA

Of course Joel won't quit. There is a greater than ever need for teachers with itching ears in this late age if prophecy is to be fulfilled.

Besides, the pay is too good to pass up.
