Huckabee: Evangelicals Will Leave If GOP Backs Gay Marriage

Evangelicals will leave the Republican Party if it supports redefining marriage to include same-sex couples, Mike Huckabee said.

When asked if he believes the Republican Party will change its position and support gay marriage in a Wednesday Newsmax interview, Huckabee remarked, "They might, and if they do, they're going to lose a large part of their base because evangelicals will take a walk."

Huckabee currently hosts a Fox News show called "Huckabee." He was formerly the governor of Arkansas and ran for president in 2008. Before he entered politics, Huckabee was a Southern Baptist pastor and a religious radio broadcaster. ...

Other than the fact that Huck is a Southern Baptist, why would you question his faith?

There are several ideologies in contemporary Christendom that consider influencing public policy part of their obligation as Christians: postmillennialists for example

Ah, joe lee, it would be great if the Republicans stop adding to The[ir] Record of Republican Corruption, and also do something about the lobby industry in Washington, D.C., ‚ÄėEvil‚Äô lobbyist Jack Abramoff talk US politics (short YouTube). They have to get their priorities straight. I suspect even queers don't like crooked politicians.

I really don't know if Hucklebee is correct or not, many are Republicans first and Christians second -- and you can legislate morality unless the majority wants certain moral standards, while some non-Christians will support one issue The Secular Case Against Gay Marriage or another, they won't go for the entire package unless they have been put on The Roman Road. I'm happy to see that many are beginning to see Republicans as politicians first and moralists second. We still might have Prohibition if they were.

The Supreme Court, many of them being Republicans, will see they have to bail the party out and so will support queer marriages.

You got that right, Huckster, but wouldn't we rather the Repubs just come on out and say they support destroying marriage than continue to stringing voters along....... paying lip service to generic family values but doing little to stand in the way of the road to Sodom except hand out snacks to passers-by?

The Republican Party may finally move to the role of a '3rd' party as the independant party takes over the role that was once played by the Republicans.

@Jamesc I would have never thought so before, but it seems like I'll be joining you without a party. I have always considered myself an independent conservative, but let's face it, if you want a candidate to win on the national scale that meant voting Republican. Now, I feel that I will have to vote for a third party, but knowing that he won't win...I'll more than likely abstain.
