Obama quotes Alinsky in speech to young Israelis

In his address in Jerusalem today, President Obama channeled Saul Alinsky, citing the radical community organizer’s defining mantra as he urged young Israelis to “create change” to nudge their leadership to act.

Obama told a crowd of college students at Jerusalem’s main convention center that Israel “has the wisdom to see the world as it is, but also the courage to see the world as it should be.”

One of Alinsky’s major themes was working with the world as it “is” to turn it into the world as “it should be.”

In his defining work, “Rules for Radicals,” which he dedicated to “the first rebel,” Lucifer, Alinsky used those words to lay out his main agenda. He asserted radical change must be brought about by working within a system instead of attacking it from the outside. ...

Huh! I just took a look at the Internet, and the half-baked ultra-Right commentators do want to connect Alinsky to Obama. But, let's say for a moment, that Obama, and especially his wife, like to quote Alinsky? Many gentlemen like you already probably know the "Rules for Radicals," and perhaps many of the students that listen to Obama do too, as I pointed out, Israel is not the land where a Rush Limbaugh, would be welcomed. Anyway, the Alisky tactics are known.

Would I'd have rather had him come out and quote Milton Friedman, and say that is what he was doing? Yes, of course. I like many things Milton said, though that "invisible hand," to keep order many times takes too long to come down on a problem, and then it is like a sledgehammer. Also Capitalism doesn't equal Democracy, as Red China has disproved to just about everyone's satisfaction. But, yes, I would rather see quotes from Friedman (at which point many of these students would have booed) rather than from Alensky. Hey, so a fellow hangs around his wife is going to pick up some phrases --maybe-- now that shouldn't surprise anyone.

I didn't know anyone had a copyright on that phrase, you mean that phrase is automatically Alinsky, the same way that everyone knows that tissues mean Kleenex? Oh, by the way
FDR wrote:
In the future days, which we seek to make secure, we look forward to a world founded upon four essential human freedoms.

The first is freedom of speech and expression -- everywhere in the world.

The second is freedom of every person to worship God in his own way -- everywhere in the world.

The third is freedom from want -- which, translated into world terms, means economic understandings which will secure to every nation a healthy peacetime life for its inhabitants -- everywhere in the world.

The fourth is freedom from fear -- which, translated into world terms, means a world-wide reduction of armaments to such a point and in such a thorough fashion that no nation will be in a position to commit an act of physical aggression against any neighbor-- anywhere in the world.

That is no vision of a distant millennium. It is a definite basis for a kind of world attainable in our own time and generation. That kind of world is the very antithesis of the so-called new order of tyranny which the dictators seek to create with the crash of a bomb.

I was not necessarily defending the American people but more so defending sheep as it is not reason to call ignorant folks sheep or sheeple for sheep are wise enough to listen and wise enough to follow the voice of the shepherd. The trouble with the United States is not that there are too many "sheeple", it's that there are too few.
Having said that, there are many Americans who are aware of Barrack Hussein Obama's Communistic tendencies. However, as with totalitarian governments throughout history the people surrounding the leader are just as wicked as the leader. If the other branches of our government were moral, they would not be standing by while the executive branch continues in lawlessness. If the military was moral they would defend the constitution. If the people were moral God wouldn't have given them immoral leadership etc.
Bottom-line, the nation as a whole has become corrupt and so we continue to be under a corrupt president who is a disciple of a corrupt antichrist Alinsky.
I would add:
A Nation that has destroyed 60,000,000 of its own unborn cannot make any claim a moral high ground.

I doubt this connection with Alinsky will be covered in the media that most people watch.

Also, Rufus, I'm surprised you left out John 10:27-"..the sheep know his voice.." Do you think that the American people (the sheep in your allusion) know the voice of Jesus and listen to him?

Jim you need to start reading the articles a little more closely. The article is about our President and his speech. There is nothing in it about the Republicans and the Republicans are not responsible for the president's ideology. Maybe you think it is a good idea that the president thinks it is good to follow Alinsky's teaching. Still the article is about our president and the speech he gave. If this was an article about how a republican governor cheated on his wife with some lady from Argentina, I am sure you would not be jumping in to remind us of former president Clinton in one or your comments. You really need to rethink you claim to be independent.

Why, Mole! you notice a few people here think that the Republicans are the '"Christian" "Democratic"' party, when in fact they are never the former and rarely the latter. They are better know as the party that have prostituted themselves to large financial interests.

Ah, Mike of N.Y., didn't you noticed I quoted one of the more popular conservative Jews, Dennis Prager on the topic, Why are so many Jews liberal? It makes for interesting reading, and I only faulted the article because it never mentioned watching the Republicans in action as a reason.

Oh, if you read the article on Kibbutzes in Wikipedia, some have fallen under the capitalist spell and have become privatized. Greed works!

"Alinsky died of a sudden, massive heart attack in 1972, on a street corner in Carmel, California, at the age of 63. Two months previously, he discussed life after death in his interview with Playboy:

ALINSKY: ... if there is an afterlife, and I have anything to say about it, I will unreservedly choose to go to hell.
PLAYBOY: Why?
ALINSKY: Hell would be heaven for me. All my life I've been with the have-nots. Over here, if you're a have-not, you're short of dough. If you're a have-not in hell, you're short of virtue. Once I get into hell, I'll start organizing the have-nots over there.
PLAYBOY: Why them?
ALINSKY: They're my kind of people." (Wiki)

I guess he knows the truth now!

Thanks Rufus.

By the way, this was directed to a group of young Jews in Israel, who may even have been raised on a Kibbutz. I actually do wish the Republicans had someone as smart and knowledgeable for the administration before him, instead of having queer supporters such as Dick Cheney. Cheney's Halliburton Made $39.5 Billion on Iraq War.

But of course, American Jews can be quite liberal as well, q.v., Why are so many Jews liberal? I think one reason left out by this conservative Jew is that they have seen too many Republicans.

Your words discredit the capabilities of sheep, they are wiser creatures than commonly understood to be.

Matthew 10:16 - Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.

Mark 6:34 - And Jesus, when he came out, saw much people, and was moved with compassion toward them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd: and he began to teach them many things.

John 10:2 - But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep.
