Controversial Pastor Punches Back After Tebow Cancellation; Rips ‘Wimping Out’
The controversial pastor of a megachurch in Dallas spoke to his congregation on Sunday about “a wild week,” which centered around a scheduled appearance by Jets backup quarterback Tim Tebow.
Tebow canceled his April 28 visit to First Baptist Dallas on Thursday amid a firestorm, sparked by past comments from the church’s head, Dr. Robert Jeffress, who has made headlines for his comments on gays and religions other than Christianity.
On Twitter, Tebow cited “new information” as the reason he scratched the date off his calendar.
Jeffress thanked his supporters during services at First Baptist Dallas, and then appeared to take a swipe at Tebow without using the quarterback’s name....
Over the years I have enjoyed hearing of Mr. Tebow and knowing how so many young people are drawn to sports, I had hoped in some way he could help folks see what was truly important....But last year when I saw that he had posed for GQ magazine I wondered was the culture beginning to influence him. i.e. Not too many years ago those type of pictures would have been considered inappropriate and there would have been no way a church would have invited him to speak.
What happened to" you will be hated for my name sake?" it reminds me of the rich man before Jesus, who could not give up his riches to follow Christ. Perfect example.
mr. b, To answer your question, Pastor Jeffress probabaly isn't well liked by liberals because he starts out this radio link from June 2012 with "homosexuality is a perversion...a twisting, a distortion of God's plan for sexuality". I will now listen to the rest of the message.
Why do you continue to call Tim Tebow a pentecostal?

Yes mr Rufus , I was watching some of this pastors preaching on YouTube , I don't see what is so bad about him . He wasn't spewing hatred like Westboro . I didn't hear anything bad. Why is he so hated?

Concur on all accounts.
I am uncertain what makes this pastor "controversial". I guess it is unusual for preachers to preach against sodomy and false religions?
As for Mr. Tebow not attending I would count that as a blessing. I would think he would need to repent of his lasciviousness and such like before he stood behind a pulpit.
