Movement seeks '1 Million Men' to fight pornography addiction
Pornography is the "pink elephant in the pew" -- the embarrassing, big subject no one wants to talk about -- and that silence is feeding a "bubonic plague" harming churches, pastor Jay Dennis told state Baptist convention executive directors and editors gathered in Oklahoma City.

"Our enemy has found the perfect tool to deliver temptation to men -- men who love God, men who love their wives, love their children and love their churches," Dennis, pastor of First Baptist Church at the Mall in Lakeland, Fla., said Feb. 14. "Yet their involvement in looking at pornography has virtually duct-taped their mouths closed and taken them out of spiritual leadership in the home and in the church."

Dennis spoke to state executives and editors at the invitation of John Sullivan, executive director of the Florida Baptist Convention, surveying the effort he began at First Baptist Lakeland in 2009 that has become ...

I hear you Chris , pornography and sexual perversion was just one of the things I wish God would have instantly deliver me from like He did with a multitude of depravity I was enslaved to but He didn't , it was a flesh issue , I had to die to that desire. My desire for God and freedom had to be more than the desire I had to give over to the lust . It was a long long process. I had to want to stop, I was hurting God, sexual sin was killing me, my relationships intimately and socially . It was bad. Sexual sin will take you places you never thought or even imagined you'd wind up. I just thank God for His wonderful mercy patience and grace toward me. If anyone on this website is struggling , I am telling you there is hope for freedom and complete change. I offer to help any way I can. God bless you brothers and sisters .

...Not that my story is the story of all stories. I don't want my post taken to sound like that because many of us have Incredible stories to tell about our regeneration. Different people, different stories, different lifestyles, different backgrounds.

I agree with this and I believe that its only by God's grace that the addict can overcome.
Aside from our general sinful natures, men are visual creatures and that's why I would say many more males than females are addicted to every kind of filth the industry and underground perv networks provide.
Don't get me wrong, I have been there but this was one of the issues covered during what I like to call,"my mass deliverance" What the Lord delivered me from in a single day is really incredible and was an event that I consider to be a bonafide miracle.
I wish I could lay out my full story to possibly encourage those who think they'll never be able to overcome, those who think they are too awful to save, etc...nonscense.

Thank you Chris . I appreciate your comment. Porn does more damage than we think. It's rampant from the pulpits to pews , no one wants to tackle the subject , any sexually immoral subject needs to be addressed in every church . It's a horrible thing to get caught up in any form of sexual addiction and perversion. Most wont come to the light because if fear , judgement, and alienation from their churches and families. It's only by Gods grace that some don't struggle with it . But those that do have to have a sincere desire for freedom and intamacy with God. God may you hear the cries of all those who seek freedom from these sins, lead them out of the darkness .

Mr B...that took some guts to post up...good for you. Porn is a wicked, wicked thing. I think that is where it all starts but at some point, it's no longer enough. I think that anyone who rapes women, rapes and molests children, etc, probably all got their start in pornography. The casual perusal suddenly becomes an addiction that ultimately needs to be satisfied with flesh, willingly or unwillingly.
I don't look at porn, I don't watch videos, I don't go online to find the girl who had a wardrobe malfunction, etc., etc, etc. I stay as far away from it as I can because I think the industry as a whole Is one of the most wicked things ever.

Surely we need to address the existence of the porn industry as well as the addiction problems?

Problem we have is that in an increasingly secular country, we seem unable to make a strong enough secular case for its abolition!

I've struggled with pornography, it destroyed my life and wrapped my thinking. Ruined relationships and intamacy on a pure level. I was exposed to hardcore porn before 1st grade. It's bad stuff. Thank God for His mercy and for going through the pure life ministries live in program . I graduated in 2001. Thank you God for freedom psalm 107:20. I recommend pure life ministries for any soul with any struggle . God bless you all.

Yes TB,
It is all HIS grace and all HIS mercy!
Salvation is of the LORD!
That prayer of transformed motives and desires is always prayed in our household.
It is a prayer that we know HE hears and answers.
As John Owen once long ago quoted.
Be killing sin or it will be killing you!
All of GOD'S best .

"What do you have that you have not received?" Amen and amen. Let me testify brothers that having struggled fruitlessly in my own power against sin for too long, and having then seen in some measure the power of the Spirit to break the chains, that ALL OF THE GLORY FOR "OUR" GOODNESS BELONGS TO HIM! All praises to God, and none to us -- He must increase, and we must decrease.

Truly all that is vile in me is my own doing and fault, and all that is Christlike is of Christ. How else can all of the glory go to Him and none to me? And, thanks alone to His grace, this is indeed how I would have it. Praise God!

Let us continue to sincerely pray for transformed desires and motives that will bring honor to our King. It is a prayer that will be heard and answered.

Blessings,
TB.

Yes US it was quite providential. The Lord knows. I was really blessed by Spurgeon's insight, and discovered later that all his readings are right here on SA under "daily reading".

It seemed to perfectly say that which I was fumblingly trying to communicate, as I believe it is a more important issue than we imagine. One thing I know, and if I have any goodness or some holy thought, I will not attribute it to myself, but to God's grace. I can only say, I am what I am by the grace of God.

Good morning US.

I suppose the comments I have been trying to make, are summed up in this morning's Spurgeon daily devotional. For eg.

"Wherein I sin, that is my own; but wherein I act rightly, that is of God, wholly and completely. If I have repulsed a spiritual enemy, the Lord's strength nerved my arm. Do I live before men a consecrated life? It is not I, but Christ who liveth in me. Am I sanctified? I did not cleanse myself: God's Holy Spirit sanctifies me. Am I weaned from the world? I am weaned by God's chastisements sanctified to my good. Do I grow in knowledge? The great Instructor teaches me. All my jewels were fashioned by heavenly art. I find in God all that I want; but I find in myself nothing but sin and misery."
Morning Meditation (Spurgeon)

This way of viewing holiness of life is, in my opinion, the biblical view, and it gives God all the glory for every good thing.

For a couple of years I was in attendance in a "Christian" cult which majored on holy living. Temptation was eradicated from the company, the sisters dressed modestly, and outwardly they were a cool bunch. But they had NO gospel, no genuine converts. However, I would love to see their ethic implemented in Reformed Churches.

Thank you John (UK) for your kind comments. I really commend the pastor for seeing a need and addressing it. These people don't need our condemnation they need our commendation of them to the throne of grace. Either that as they sit under the preaching of the Word (remember he said it was the pink elephant in the pew) they would see, as TB has so aptly pointed out, that in this and many areas they are not pursuing holiness without which no man shall see the Lord and they will cry to God for salvation; or that they would by God's grace and power lay aside (mortify) this sin that so easily besets them and follow the guidelines that the pastor setup. Who can know his errors cleanse thou me from secret faults and keep back thy servant from presumptuous sin was the prayer of the psalmist and that also we must utter. One of the reasons people find this sin so hard to conquer is the shame associated with it. I trust God would use that to remind me that I should view every sin with shame, brokenness, and contrition. There is a reason the apostle said that keeping a conscience void of offense to God and man was exercise. It is no easy work! May God give us grace to shine as lights in the midst of a crooked and perverse world to His praise and glory.

The head-knowledge of divine truth,,which is all that multitudes of present-day professing Christians possess, has no more influence upon their walk unto practical godliness, than though it was stored up in some other man's brains.
The light which the Spirit gives, HUMBLES and ABASES it's recipient;the knowledge which is acquired by education and personal efforts, puffs up and fills with conceit.

Thank you America. It's an encouragement that there's a remnant which takes this seriously. It should be the cry of our hearts in prayer before God that we would hate our sin -- that's the kind of prayer He will answer. I can't imagine that the 80% who view porn weekly have been praying this way...

I love how God says "I have reserved 7,000 who have not bowed their knee to Baal." May we be reserved too, to not bow our knee to the Baals of our world!

Yes, which is why a good confession is helpful, such as the Baptist 1689 on SANCTIFICATION . Puts everything in perspective.
