Puerto Rico’s Supreme Court on Wednesday voted 5-4 to ban gay couples from adopting children, with judges claiming that a child’s dignity, stability and well-being can only be ensured if raised in a “traditional” family.
The vote comes two days after 200,000 religious Christians held a rally against granting same-sex couples any sort of legal rights. As the largest anti-gay rally in the history of the US commonwealth, the gathering portrayed the immense opposition gay couples continue to face in Puerto Rico.
Although some lawmakers support granting gay couples with certain legal rights, many public figures remain starkly opposed to the idea. Unfortunately, it wasn't by a resounding majority that the Puerto Rican Supreme Court stopped this adoption. Yes, there are countries that taking a stronger action against Homosexuality, Russia sees America's error, may ban public homosexuality. There are quite a few things going on in Russia an American should dislike, but this isn't one of them.
I think it's a pretty sad day when other countries have to begin setting examples for the United States. Other countries still have the strength to just say no, not caring what anyone thinks about it.
