Pope Benedict XVI is to resign at the end of this month after nearly eight years as the head of the Catholic Church, saying he is too old to continue at the age of 85.
The unexpected development - the first papal resignation in nearly 600 years - surprised governments, Vatican-watchers and even his closest aides.
The then Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger became Pope after John Paul II's death.
The Vatican says it expects a new Pope to be elected before Easter.

SteveR does not say they spell out the true biblical doctrine of the Lord's salvation.
All he can manage to say is that in his opinion they are a true depiction of biblical Christianity but he would never damn anyone for holding to the more popular doctrines of salvation!!
Presumably then if TULIP stand for salvation by grace alone, he would not condemn anyone for holding to salvation by works, or a mixture of grace and works?! He is such a good Roman Catholic!
TULIP is an acrostic, which spells out, as you said, the true biblical doctrine of the Lord's salvation. Any alternative involves works of the sinner.
As for Roman Catholics, if they believe the RCC doctrines of salvation, they are a genuine Catholic and still lost. Genuine Catholics believe they were born again when baptised, as do Anglicans. You will find this stated quite clearly in the Book of Common Prayer of the Church of England. Such people are very hard to convince that they need to be born again, and that they need to trust solely and wholly in the Lord Jesus Christ for their salvation. But occasionally some do, and when they are justified by faith alone in Christ alone, they inevitably repudiate the former teachings.
