US Protestants More Likely Than Catholics to Own Guns, Poll Says
Gun owners in the country tend to be men, white, married and living in the South, shows a Gallup study published Friday. The analysis of surveys for the last five years also shows that Protestants are more likely to own guns than Catholics.
An average of 30 percent of Americans said they personally own a gun and another 14 percent said they did not personally own a gun but live in a household with someone who does, according to an analysis of Gallup surveys of some 6,000 U.S. adults from 2007 to 2012.
The study also found that men, at 45 percent, are three times more likely than women, at 15 percent, to personally own guns. Gun ownership also varies significantly by region, with Southerners, at 38 percent, more likely to own guns than those living in other regions of the country – East at 21 percent, Midwest at 29 percent and West at 27 percent....

No need to wait for me to answer a historical question. I say anyone who was not Catholic, esp. Anglicans, & also Dissenters like Presbys, Congregationalists, & Baptists. Anabaptists & Quakers were pacifists so it doesn't matter either way for them. Catholics were excluded because, as in principle allied to the pope (ever since Pius V's Bull "Regnans in Excelsis" against Elizabeth I), they were considered a potential threat to national security. Back then, religious belief was taken seriously, & if a person was Catholic, it was *assumed* they had no choice but to obey the pope's Bulls.
BTW, I've discovered that many Fundies today repudiate the label "Protestant." They have nothing to protest, they say. No guns for them, then!
In order to be understood clearly, how did they define Protestant?

Especially unplugged Tommy guns. It would have been interesting to find out the percentages that had guns illegally, I would bet the Catholics would outnumber the Protestants on that one.
The gun debate is getting real old. Either you want one have one or you don't . And if you got one , hide it before the beloved government knocks down your door and forcefully takes it away
