A Bad Economy or Is the Church Losing America's Heart?
Americans are giving more to charity but the church is increasingly getting less of the goodwill from their pockets. How much less? At least $1 billion worth of it, says the Atlas of Giving, and that's only what's predicted for this year alone.
Despite positive growth in overall charitable donations from Americans in the last three years, religious organizations can expect more than $1 billion less in giving this year than they collected in 2012, according to a report released this month by the Atlas of Giving.
Recognized as the most precise measure of charitable giving in the United States and accounting for the entire giving economy, the Atlas of Giving notes in its 2012 report that while religion remains the largest giving sector in America, its share of the pie will decline from 36 percent to 35 percent this year despite overall increases in charitable giving....
maybe because america is in a depression? 47 million on food stamps? people are facing hardships, health issues that a generation ago were not as stark? inflation. increases in fees and red tape in all areas of life.
open up the land here. bring money into communities here for relief through local churches. send out missionaries to the streets here.
stop with the "america is special" rapture nonsense and get on with walking with the persecuted church.... otherwise they will just keep leaving!
the petro dollar will not reign forever. its time to accept this. CHina is going outside of this, and sounds like Libya was succeeding in a gold backed system. the world is getting tired of this nonsense.
America lost heart. Most churches aren't full. What keeps people out of church is other Christians , you see people loosing this and binding that and their life is totally out of control, they love you on Sunday and you can go to hell Monday to Saturday .cliques within the church, strife gossip backbiting jealousy, you want to come to church feeling welcome , instead it's like never knowing your neighbor. Everything is impersonal . All this charismatic garbage and there is no presence or power of the Holy Spirit, preachers who want to be people pleasers don't want to speak of the hard issues like sin hell and death. They preach about you having power and what you can do and what you can have, preaching prosperity while there are people who have been tithing for years expecting big things and wallets are still empty. We lost our place , church is no different than the world . It's a popularity contest and fashion show . No one seems to get personally involved with anyone. No wonder those unsaved don't want anything to do with church. Those outside the church are looking for something authentic. God forgive us , we've shut those out who are sincerely looking for You. Forgive us for our hypocrisy . Head full of knowledge and no closer to heaven than the devil himself.
