Attempts to start Canadaâ€™s first Christian law school come under fire because of B.C. universityâ€™s ban on gay relationships

The heads of Canadaâ€™s law schools oppose Trinity Western Universityâ€™s attempts to start the countryâ€™s first religious law school.

The Council of Canadian Law Deans has distributed a letter criticizing the evangelical Christian universityâ€™s long-standing requirement that faculty and students refrain from homosexual relationships.

â€œItâ€™s very troubling for Canadian law school deans,â€ Bill Flanagan, president of the Canadian Council of Law Deans, said in an interview this week.

The deansâ€™ objection is Trinity Western Universityâ€™s Bible-based â€œcommunity covenant,â€ which the council says makes clear that â€œgay, lesbian or bisexual students may be subject to disciplinary measures including expulsion.â€ ...
