Nicole Hawkinsâ three daughters have matching glittery boots, but none has the same father. Each has uniquely colored ties in her hair, but none has a dad present in her life.
As another single mother on Sumner Road decked her row-house stoop with Christmas lights and a plastic Santa, Ms. Hawkins recalled that her middle childâs father has never spent a holiday or birthday with her. In her neighborhood in Southeast Washington, 1 in 10 children live with both parents, and 84 percent live with only their mother.
In every state, the portion of families where children have two parents, rather than one, has dropped significantly over the past decade. Even as the country added 160,000 families with children, the number of two-parent households decreased by 1.2 million. Fifteen million U.S. children, or 1 in 3, live without a father, and nearly 5 million live without a mother. In 1960, just 11 percent...
One small glimmer in that secular world I talk about and which we all have to notice, and also take note:
1 John 2 15 Do not love the world, nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world.---NASB
Thanks to computer tracking more of the wanderlust or just plain lusty dads are being caught up with and at least made to pay financial support. Oh an interesting quotation:
âI came to understand the importance of fatherhood through its absenceâboth in my life and in the lives of others. I came to understand that the hole a man leaves when he abandons his responsibility to his children is one that no government can fill. We can do everything possible to provide good jobs and good schools and safe streets for our kids, but it will never be enough to fully make up the difference.â â President Barack Obama, June 19, 2009 from, Promoting Responsible Fatherhood
As the mother of two grown sons who want to find moral Christian young women to marry, I can only pray that they won't lower their standards and settle for an independent woman without morals or respect for men and who desires to have the state be a daddy to her children.
They've been working toward that goal for over a century now:
"If Americans can be divorced for âincompatibility of temper,â I cannot conceive why they are not all divorced. I have known many happy marriages, but never a compatible one. The whole aim of marriage is to fight through and survive the instant when incompatibility becomes unquestionable. For a man and a woman, as such, are incompatible." -G.K. Chesterton in Whatâs Wrong with the World (1910)
Now that Marriage is shot through [26% of Evangelical Christians are divorced], hookups and an increase in gay marriage are all that's left. After the one night stand ladies, he'll be gone with the wind to greener pastures.
