Catholics Far Behind Evangelicals in Devotion to Faith, Study Shows
A new study has found that Catholics now have the lowest proportion of "strongly affiliated" followers among America's major religious traditions, while evangelicals are growing stronger in their devotion to their faith.
Philip Schwadel, a sociologist at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, whose findings rely on a survey conducted among a cross-section of Americans on an annual or bi-annual basis since 1974, notes that from about a 5-percentage-point difference in the 1970s in how strongly Catholics and evangelicals felt about their religion, it has increased to around 20 percentage points today....
You will find that SA staff put up material to stir up discussion (This might sometimes depress them since it also doesn't stir up new thinking by some of the participants, ) However, this material coming out of Nebraska no less! (Hey don't blame me! UNL went from apparently an anti-Catholic University in the 1920's to a defacto Catholic school by the 1960's, yes, an atheistic one besides big money education makes for strange bed-fellows)
But this reminds me of something that Gil Rugh pointed out some years ago, (Hey, I believe this correct, but memory doesn't improve with age!) that Catholics and Christians had a common mindset on morality 50 [or more years ago] and now their morality it is very similar to the secular view. I might have to disagree with Gil on this one since Romish Church has often supported the world view, q.v., Should Roman Catholicism really be classified as a Christian religion? -- No. --but-- anyway, considering the majority of Most Catholic women use birth control banned by church, I would say that the Romish Church is a house built upon the sand of works.

When you consider that evangelicals have no truck with a works salvation, and see nothing in themselves worthy of eternal life, and that their salvation is through the work only of the Lord Jesus Christ, and that they believe wholeheartedly the scripture which says "the heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked", and that all have sinned and come short, and that they themselves are wicked through and through by nature apart from grace, and that "in me dwelleth no good thing", and that by grace I am saved, not of works lest any man should boast......then no, I think you have it wrong.
You are more likely to find self-congratulation within the popish people, rather than the Jesus People.
