Rick Warren Over Whether People Are Born Gay or ‘Become Gay’: ‘I Think the Jury’s Still Out on That’

Evangelical mega-pastor Rick Warren appeared on CNN’s “Piers Morgan Tonight” on Tuesday, where a familiar issue was discussed — homosexuality. The television host wasted no time in asking the Christian preacher whether he believes people are born gay or whether they “become gay.”

“You know what, I think the jury’s still out on that. It wouldn’t — it wouldn’t bother me if there was, quote, ‘a gay gene’ found, because here’s what we know about life,” Warren responded. “I have all kinds of natural feelings in my life and it doesn’t necessarily mean that I should act on every feeling. Sometimes I get angry and I feel like punching a guy in the nose. It doesn’t mean I act on it.”

“Sometimes I — as you pointed out, sometimes I feel attracted to women who are not my wife. I don’t act on it,” he proclaimed. “Just because I have a feeling doesn’t make it right. Not everything natural is good for me.” ...

unprofitable -- my sarcasm perhaps went too far? I'm sorry for that. It was simply an expression of frustration, not that I would wish mercury upon you, but on the contrary would want you to not be poisoned by it. I would want you to be healthy and strong in the Lord.

the frustration is that I cannot stop those believing that having mercury sitting exposed in the teeth is not leeching mercury into the body all day. or the other means in which modern medicine gives it to us. I call this poor man's medicine.

have you seen what kind of gear prepared dentitsts use to remove mercury? they have to shield everything from the vapors!

I cannot go further into my associations. no, I'm not just web surfing.

But I hope the topic can go back to Warren and the sodomy issue, which should be heard, and I hope I have answered your concerns sufficiently.

but hey, you wanna think that sucking on mercury all day is no big deal, then enjoy!
JPW, I am not sure if you read the article or just surfed the web trying to find something bad about its author. I do know that no where in the article and certainly in nothing that I have said, is there any kind of advocacy for what you suggested at the end of your post. In fact, given your beliefs about the substance that such a practice would have devastating or deadly affects to one's health, am very surprised you would make such a comment. (John 13:35)

Mohler and Warren are falling into the trap laid by unbelievers because they would rather compromise biblical truth than appear to be intolerant. This is know as political correctness and it is destroying the testimony of many professing believers. It is also destroying America.

Warren's answer about the jury being out is like Obama's answer to him about the question of abortion being above his paygrade. Both are sin and both are condemned by God!

PS. Mr. Warren, the jury is irrevelant, the Judge has already decreed and His verdict is GUILTY!

it is just a useless question.

people are born in sin and after eating from the knowledge of good and evil, Adam and Eve felt shame, knew things they would not know.......that is why it is best to let God be God!

in that sense, people are born murderers, too.... this too is oh so common today, and when its done coorporately, seems justified in our minds.

and theft, selfishness, these things are easily seen among the young, doesn't have to be taught.

to me, its a silly question.

is maniacal anger natural because people who absorb too much mercury go insane?

these are not questions for the rational mind.

are we feminizing our boys? yes.

its established that certain plastics, soy products among other things can feminize boys, autism more highly seen among boys. looking at the suicidal grain seeds that we now eat (they suicide their generation through an inserted gene that makes them not able to reproduce themselves, leaving farmers beholden to M to rebuy seed for the following crop) -- many have claimed links to human sterility and many farmers have claimed this in their livestock that eat it.

no, this process of destroying God's design is not pretty.

I would run from mercury poisoning, and so should we anything destructive to human body/soul.

Romans 1:24-26(NKJV) Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the NATURAL use for what is against nature. 27 Likewise also the men, leaving the NATURAL: use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.

Really, they have "gay pride" week, month, parades, etc. But they have no pride in saying that they chose their lifestyle? It was forced on them at birth against their will??? Professing themselves to be wise they are become fools

It was my pleasure! As an aside, the reason Mohler got into the gay gene thing was because someone said they had a sheep that was gay and of course the sheep couldn't have been affected by their environment, so the fellow claimed there must be a gay gene.

I believe the root cause of the things you noted is those who name of the name of Christ are actually ashamed of scripture when it makes them look silly, foolish, or hateful to the world. Evolution is a fraud, but to say like I believe it was 6 literal days and all by God's fiat makes us look foolish in the eyes of society. But, 1 Cor. 1:26-29 says that my thoughts will be foolish to the world.

This is another example of how hopeless even the better Christian academics & celebrities are today. Instead of exposing & attacking the epistemology of their unbelieving interviewer, as they could & should do, they accept it & fall into debating secondary issues.
Now there are times when one may want to accept his assumptions, but only for the sake of argument so you can turn them against him. This is called Ad Hominem (not the abusive kind).
Creationists are another example: while many rightly emphasize the primacy of Scripture, they also accept empirical science, so long as it works out in their favor. Thus they too wind up debating a maze of details with Darwinists, instead of cutting them off at the knees as they can.

Why does this guy Rick Warren still call himself Christian if he doesn't believe God and His Word???

Is the so called jury still out on burning babies in idolatry and beastiality the verses either side of sodomy in Leviticus???

Well, there would be one cure for it, even if it couldn't be done in Romish hospitals (apparently many Romish priests need this treatment)

Matthew 19
12 "For there are eunuchs who were born that way from their mother's womb; and there are eunuchs who were made eunuchs by men; and there are also eunuchs who made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. He who is able to accept this, let him accept it."---NASB

It's in the genes to sin, and that has to be controlled by the Christian,

1 Timothy 1
9 realizing the fact that law is not made for a righteous man, but for those who are lawless and rebellious, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers
10 and immoral men and homosexuals and kidnappers and liars and perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound teaching,---NASB

Yes, Ricky's a heretic, rejecting what is in the Bible, The Bible Says Homosexuality is Sin.

I think most of the below comments are right on. I personally think that Rick Warren is a heretic, so his opinion is useless except where it confuses the genuine body of Christ. But, few know that Al Mohler actually entertained the thought of a gay gene. He wasn't quite as slippery as Pastor Warren, but he basically said "The discovery of a biological factor would not change the Bible's moral verdict on homosexual behavior, Mohler insisted.

Rather than excusing homosexual behavior, such a genetic discovery could lead to prenatal ways to eliminate homosexual orientation, Mohler said, and Christians should support such a development."

Since those folks are totally depraved they probably struggle with all manner of deadly sins.

"I think the jury’s still out on that."

Can't even conservatives tell that the jury's hung? This is another version of the old "Nature versus Nurture" question, which CANNOT be answered categorically by empirical methods.

And why should we believe the testimony of homosexuals that they were born that way? Can anyone remember their thoughts as an infant? Or they could be lying or deceiving themselves, which they have every incentive to do since they can then plead that they have an excuse for their condition (cf. Pelagianism).

Slick Rick is at it again can't we just say what is sinful according to the word of god. This is the problem in the church to many psychologist in the pulpits. Remember the church is for those who truly believe the whole council of god.
