Opinion: Surprise! We voted for God's judgment

“Like all the other nations …” – i.e., we’re no longer exceptional, let us be like all the other nations. Sound familiar?

Old Samuel knew this desire was wrong and would lead the people even farther from God, into servitude, injustice and moral darkness. So he went to the Lord for guidance. But what did He say? “Do everything they say to you,” the Lord replied, “for it is Me they are rejecting, not you. They don’t want me to be their king any longer.”

From then on, for hundreds of years, the people suffered under foolish kings, many worse than the one before, still wanting their own way and forsaking the way of God who had made them great in their beginning. They ended in abject slavery, in Babylon captivity.

Don’t think that can happen to our America? Friend, our people have rejected the very same God and His way, and clamored after a king who has promised to provide, protect and lead them ...

Good morning Christopher.

What is a "smacksown"?

Dear Christopher, That's fine - I don't take offense because in this format of communication we can't see beyond the words, whereas if we were talking at say a coffee shop or in someone's living room, we would see the facial expressions and hear their tone of voice.
Before I became a Christian, I was afraid to speak out on anything. But once I began reading the Bible, I realized that God wants us to speak out and that He'll give us opportunity and words. So, thank you for looking deeper into who I am and the message I am trying to convey to others.

Angela, I could have left out the part about not caring for you previously. I have a bad habit of saying what's on my my mind when I could word things differently at times...

Mrs Angela Wittman, just a few days ago, I didn't care much for you, and the feeling was probably mutual, but now, I have to say that I'm a bit impressed and realize that I've had you all wrong. I understand where you are coming from now and I admire any Christian who commits their life to Biblical matters. Not everyone has the drive, the interest, or even the concern that so many Christians seem to lack. I hope to make a difference somehow but I have no ideas and lack any direction. I have a strong headknowledge of the Bible and thought I knew much more than I really do. I get corrected constantly and at first, it was shocking because I thought I could roll with anyone before coming to this board. I dedicated my life earlier this year but had read/listened to the Bible many times. I guess I just need to be patient as far as finding out what my job will be. I'm young-ish but I worry that I'll die without having anything to show for my life. Anyway, if you have any room for an extra friend, you gained one. I really like all of the news articles linked from your site.

FYI - communists were bitterly persecuting homosexuals in 1958.

The 1958 agenda, if it was real, reflects the mindset and inventions of the anti-communist paranoia.

America invented the monster and,
God, in his wise and perfect judgment,
had them unleash it on themselves.

Dear Christopher,
My understanding of the Christian life is it's all about having a comprehensive Biblical worldview and seeking to honor the Lord Jesus Christ in all we do. This means we might have to take a more narrow path than others and frankly, I've done this my entire Christian life. For some reason known only to the Lord, He placed me in the midst of a culture war and my only position has been to stand on the Word of God. If I don't have a Scripture or Biblical principle to stand on, I am likely to compromise, which can be good. However, God has given us Biblical instruction and principles on choosing leaders throughout Scripture. In Exodus we have the example of Moses taking advice from his father-in-law on what types of men to make judges for the Israelites, and then in the New Testament we have instruction on what types of men to choose as leaders in the Church. We can use the same criteria when choosing civil leaders because we are told in Romans 13 that God has instituted civil government. Traditional reformed thinking has been that while the Church and State are separate spheres, both are under King Jesus and should serve Him. This is where I stand and I'll not be moved. Amen.

"if anyone brings another Gospel, let him be accursed"
When I first read this, I thought, Finally! Someone showed me, using the Bible, why I should not have voted.
But now, I think this would apply to a spiritual leader or anyone, for that matter, who teaches anything which contradicts the Bible in any way.
Can this be applied to voting for a secular leader as well?
The gospel is the power of God unto salvation and all who are saved are saved by the grace of God alone.

I seriously doubt there are any professing Christians, real or diluded, who believe the job of the POTUS is to save them from God's wrath and their sins. Therefore, to quote this verse as a biblical reason to not vote for a non-born again Christian for POTUS is an abuse of scripture.

But maybe Overcomer knows something else which we are unaware of to back up his accusation.
