High court: archbishop collaborated with secret police during Romania's communist era
Romania's highest court has upheld the conviction of a top Orthodox cleric that he secretly served as an informant for the country's communist-era Securitate police.
The 83-year-old Archbishop Pimen was found guilty by a government council of serving as an informant sent by the church and the Securitate to spy on fellow clergy and members of Romania's expatriate community in the United States in the 1970s.
Before the allegations emerged in 2007, he was considered one of the luminaries of the church and had hosted Romania's former King Michael and Britain's Prince Charles at famous painted monasteries in Romania....

Yes bro I read it with interest, but could make no comment as I know nothing about that. But I can well imagine it happening, and I appreciated your openness. Communist countries are a satanic example of how to wreck and destroy the lives of men and women and children too. I learnt that from reading Pastor Wurmbrand's book.

You of course realize that I was not trying to draw attention to myself. But, firsthand knowledge is better than second hand knowledge. Or, at least at a minimum it gives us a different perspective.

Warning to New Christian's this post could be trap to tempt you to answer this post. Part way through your conversation, if you don't agree with Frank on his personal theology he will pretent the conversation is about something else, there are two or three others on this site who are in an unholy alliance with each other to stop any honest communication. Should you try to point this out they will will begin cracking jokes. In that way they can continue to say whatever they like, only now couched in humor. If that doesn't work and you don't go away they will then just ignore you until you make a spelling mistake or misquote someone - then they all begin picking on you like a pack of wolves.
One of the most amazing things that I have noted during my long life is the way non-Catholics view the Catholic church these days. When I was a boy raised in the Catholic church, if someone asked us if we were saved, or if we were Christians, we responded by saying "we are Catholic". The word Christian was never associated with the Catholic church, in Catholic homes I knew about at least. Because of societal pressures to not judge or criticize and things like that, the Catholic church gradually became associated with the real church. In today's conservative movement, especially from FOX news, they are the only ones we hear from or about. If some rather well know pastor tells the media they aren't, just see what happens. I think Vatican 2 was most responsible for that.
I am still amazed that the Catholics have murdered 10s of thousands of Christians; never said it was wrong, and yet they are still welcomed by many who profess to be in Christ's real church.

"The influential Romanian Orthodox Church has opposed opening the files of its senior clergy from Romania's 1945-1989 communist era. Many priests are believed to have collaborated."
When the police put a gun to the head of your people, whatever you do, don't cooperate.
Now, I can say from "first" hand experience that the Catholic church did have informers during the communist days in Romania. I wasn't there in the 70s, but I can attest to the late 80s. Those of us who ventured there were much more worried about them finding out who we were than normal citizens. If they found out you were visiting one of the local Christians, it didn't take long for the authorities to find out. This was pretty much common knowledge among the non-registered Christian churches.
I know many in America understand Catholicism differently than it is practiced in hostile areas. The same was true in Croatia during the war there. They had this strange thought that in order to be relevant, they had to exist; therefore their cooperation with authorities.
They did the same thing during the crusades if captured by the Muslims; convert and repent later.
Going to bed, but I couldn't resist this issue since it had personal meaning to me.
